I think this is great! Buutt... Isn't this a bit too soon to be promoting him to HC? Didn't the team struggle last season when he took over?

Didn't Brett end up being the HC after though? What were those details again?

He did, yes. Cull got called up because Lambert and Larsen were unavailable, Cirella was named interim head coach, then he was unavailable (medical leave, I think) so Sutter was given the interim tag.

Darryl went right from NHL player to NHL coach. Aside from 2 seasons as an IHL coach which wasn't really a developmental league, his whole coaching experience was NHL. I would bet that Brett, being pretty much a career AHL guy and surrounded by young players trying to make it, bodes well for how he relates to them.
From a Calgary Flames lore perspective, I am happy to see a continuation of Sutters in the organization. There have been ups and downs, but you just know that family is all about the Calgary Flames.

Congrats to him. We all knew this was coming eventually. We all know it is only a matter of time now before he becomes the Flames HC one day. Only a matter of time it seems before he ends up as a head coach in the NHL at some point anyway if not with the Flames.
