It seems like the biggest issues with GMs not making their selection in a timely manner have more to do with not having a plan or list in place until their selection comes up and then starting to do their homework or fielding trade requests at the last minute and then needing time to make a decision. Without some sort of time limit on picks and just hoping GMs make timely selections is a recipe for disaster.

Are GMs PMing the next Gm to make a pick? All the online drafts I have participated had this as a fundamental rule to inform the next person it was their turn to select.

I am not a huge proponent of giving cap for picks for a number of reasons.
1) All the trades that have been made to this point didn't take this into consideration. Someone who is sitting on a bunch of 4th rounders would be wise to cash in and get an extra 2-3 mil in cap space as it is very unlikely any of those picks turn out.
2) The proposed values are way too high. The last couple of years we are starting to see picks traded for crazy amounts of cap. Sometimes likely because teams are intentionally tanking and selling off cap to get high picks and others because they have ~$30 mil in cap space. Maybe at half the proposed values it would be a more difficult decision.
3) We could see less trading as GMs may want to keep picks just to cash them in for extra cap. Teams picking late in each round could make over 5 mil in cap just from their own picks. This further separates the have franchises from the have not franchises.

I like the idea of a hybrid draft, but we have had issues in the past with the live draft with people dumping picks, not showing up, not showing up prepared, etc. This is obviously just a symptom of a larger problem where the level of involvement by some GMs is just not there. I appreciate the discussion and hopefully we can use this year as a trial run to develop a much more efficient draft process for next year.
These are all good points but consider the proposed cap amounts for the picks to be purely illustrative. The values may not be right. Was primarily intersted in the concept itself. But you raise other good points.

Maybe we could keep the draft gping for the weekend? And then if it's not done find a time durong the week to finish it up live.

But I bet if we continue over the weekend it would go way faster and we could get it done.

I don't like the idea of anyone getting paid for their draft picks. But I do like it for those underprivileged teams that opt in for the supplemental draft because they have better choices.

I'm really enjoying this hybrid version so far. Yes, there's been some slow times for sure. If I were in the field I would probably be in a similar situation as well and causing delays so I fully understand that other people are just busy sometimes. A couple of people mentioned how it would be nice to be proactive about trades and maybe just having a couple of your draft choices ready so you don't have to do a deep dive when is your turn and instead are ready to pick. Seems pretty straightforward.

This is the first year of doing it and I'd chalk any negatives up to just that.

I think if we keep up the pace today similar to the 2nd half of yesterday we could actually cancel the live draft. But I think we need to be into the 3rd round to make that call.

In the other drafts I'm in, what really helps is a chat group that everyone is in.

We currently have a discord server, but around half the league is in there. The ones that are in the group are on the ball. But it's mainly due to people communicating that you are up.

I also always carry a short list with me; I know who my next 3 picks are at all times. I always have my phone on me and worst-case scenario; I could text the chat group to post my pick.

If more people could add discord it would help. I'm not a discord person; I only know of it as I have a high school kid who is on it. But it does help with some situations and speeds things up when everyone can see what is up.

That being said, Scorp up are up! lol

Honestly I don't think the slowness is due to people not knowing it's their pick.

Honestly for me, it had zero to do with that. I just had the busiest couple of days ever and everytime I thought to make my pick something else came up and took me away.

Moving now, learning curves but I think this is the way forward. Just a guess but I think a few maybe didn't prepare as they would've if it was a live draft and then relied on their time they had as it came to them.

Based on where we are on now I'm comfortable canceling the live draft. that gives us until next Friday to finish things we should be doable.
I would ask if someone knows they are NOT going to be available for a very long stretch that you provide someone a list or ask them to pick for you.
Any objections?

I like the offline draft better, more time to think, more time to make trades. Not as much pressure, very nice!

well done guys! Speed was unreal in the later rounds.

Experiment was a full success IMO. Fun experience, with a lot of activity across the league ... I enjoyed this a lot more than the old format.
