Icon59 NHL investigating whether Oilers used Kane LTIR cap relief in compliance with CBA

https://twitter.com/user/status/1935481958408048911

Quote:
despite the final chapter of the edmonton oilers‘ season being written at the stanley cup final, sources say the nhl plans to continue to examine edmonton’s use of long-term injury (ltir) salary cap relief with forward evander kane in the days and weeks ahead.

The nhl may require more information to satisfy itself that oilers complied with the collective bargaining agreement when kane returned for the second game of round 1 against the los angeles kings after not appearing in a single game during the regular season.

The nhl is still deliberating on next steps. There is the potential for retroactive punishment if the league finds the spirit of the cba was violated. No team in the salary cap era has been punished for ltir usage, despite the hot button issue and no shortage of complaints in recent years.

between mourning the finals loss, twisting themselves into pretzels to justify the Frederic contract and now screaming "but everybody else is allowed to do it!!!" into the void over this, Oilers fans must have a fun day. Enjoy.

Any amount of cap penalizing them this upcoming year would absolutely be devastating for them.

But of course this is for show, NHL won’t do anything about it.

Do they have any meaningful draft picks left for the NHL to take away? I can just see the league taking away their 7th round pick for cap circumvention. And if they had won, it would have easily been worth the cheating and the penalty.

And if the oilers won the cup? This allegation would have never seen the light of day

Don't have a problem with this but why now after Kane, Kucherov, etc?

Ok, sooooo what would have happened then if they won the cup with him in the lineup?

I mean if there was a concern why was he even allowed to play?

Just spitballing without knowing the full details but I imagine what the NHL is looking is the 2nd surgery that "extended" how long Kane is out until the playoffs.

Questions like if could the 2nd surgery have done earlier to coincide with the recovery of the 1st surgery? And therefore Kane would have recovered before the playoffs and the Oilers couldn't use the LTIR relief for Frederic and Walman

I wonder if Kane filled a grievance

Seemed they were forcing him to stay out which doesn’t help his career going forward

Well I don’t think they can / would have any justification to stop him from playing in playoffs . There isn’t a playoff cap , etc

The Union would be all over the NHL if they tried that

Fair, I thought he came back right before the playoffs started but I’m mistaken

Outside of winning the cup or a playoff round or the draft lottery or anything like that, the past 24 hours have been about as delightful as any Flames’ fan could ask for.

Oilers fans in absolute victim mode on social media.

This, the Frederic contract, and the Stanley Cup loss... The last 24 hours have been unreal for a hater
