I think Wolf is going to be the reason why we won't be able to tank. He has a ton riding on this season and probably will bet on himself being able to get even better for a bigger payday. He's going to be locked in this summer to prove to the NHL he's a legit #1.
You would need to trade the kid for this team to tank.

Agree with all of this but i will say that having two or 3 rookies on d is not a great move historically.
Weegar/parekh
Bahl/?
Pachal/?
If we fill internally we have 3 rookie defenders. That may leave your young goaltender exposed more than you want. Also brewster who would probably fill that middle pairing and isn’t exactly fleet of foot. I think our defense isnt mobile enough which lead to a lot of our scoring woes and why i advocate for trading for a young defender or free agent or offer sheet.
You would have Bahl/ mystery defender as your middle pair allow brewski time to learn.
Fill that middle pair with a mobile young defender, do something about a young top six center the bones of a pretty good team are there.

Even if Wolf takes a step back in his sophomore year, which happens to a lot of good players, I doubt he would be bad enough for the Flames to be a lottery team.

Yowza. Huberdeau might finally be free of his 'worst contract in the league' title!

He isn’t playing 82 games. He will get 50-55 starts and I doubt he goes undefeated. His play took a lot of dips thought the year as well.
People also expect this team to play the same way for 82 games. That type of style wears thin very quickly.

Good on Bennett for fighting through the "bust" vibes he had on his way out of Calgary. I figured he would carve out a role in the bottom 6 somewhere in the league, but I definitely didn't ever expect to see him sign a $10 million AAV contract!

If Ryan Miller and Carey Price can be on teams picking 2nd and 3rd OV, Wolf can.
A - Wolf was amazing but he played 53 games. It's not like he played Hellebuyck games
B - he didn't have Hellebuyck numbers either. Not even close. MVP of the team but are we really suggesting that he was the only player that helped this team win games?
Kadri was a very big part of winning games. Weegar too. Option is there if they were to try and take it.

There’s a number of posters on here that will be rolling in their CP graves when they see Bennett making 10M.

As they should. That’s going to be a terrible contract.

It was interesting Lebrun said some teams told him they would have to tell the fan base he won’t be scoring much in the regular season he’s here for the playoffs.

You are probably right. Barn Burner guys explained it well with the cap going up that it will be middle six money fairly soon. I don't think it makes sense for the Flames but somebody will definitely make that plunge.

Won a Stanley Cup last year, and would have been in the conversation for Conn Smythe.
Competing for a Stanley Cup this year, leading goal scorer in the playoffs, and in the conversation again for Conn Smythe.
Now add to that, he's really mean and miserable to play against.

And still a career high of 51 points and plays a game that is hard on the body. Terrible contract written all over it

Lol, wtf are you talking about? Makar isn't even in the top ten greatest D men of all time let alone #1. You must be really young.

Makar was the 2nd fastest ever to 300 points, 3rd fastest to 400 points. Barring injury he will be in the top 3 all time for scoring by defencemen. I would love to know which ten dmen are better than Makar in the history of hockey.

You have no idea how the rest of his career will go but I can go right off the top of my head.
1. Orr
2. Bourque
3. Lidstrom
4. S Niedermayer
5. Leetch
6. Coffey
7. Doughty
8. Pronger
9. Chelios
10. Chara

He is absolutely better than 7-10 on your list especially offensively. Hes better than Scotty Niedermayer who was my favourite dman to watch with his effortless ability to join the rush and break up plays all on the same shift.
Don’t think I’ve ever seen a player able to go up and down the ice like Makar.

Points aren't everything.
Orr, Lidstrom, Bourque, Robinson, Potvin, Chara just of the top of my head.

No he isn't. He has not accomplished anything close to what those guys have yet. There is more to just skating well and putting up points. If you have never seen a player go up and down the ice better than Makar you obviously never saw Orr play.
