In a way, F1’s changes did exactly what they hoped would happen in Monaco…it didn’t dramatically impact the results (it was basically a procession…like always) but gave the fans a lot more to talk about during the uneventful (in terms of overtakes) race.

I don’t mind the idea of making the first pit stop happen before a specific lap but it really is all about putting lipstick on a pig.

Problem for tracks like Monaco is that the cars have become too large. I wish they could shrink them down about 10 percent to scale. Then it would make for great racing around that old track.

I do wonder about a Monaco specific car spec. Could make an already iconic race more iconic. Special cars for the most special historic track in F1.

They should just have to drive in historic cars like in the Monaco Historique

The problem is 90s/00s cars are still nearly impossible to overtake with in Monaco. It would be better but there’s no fixing it. I’m resigned to try and enjoy it for what it is.

I thought the race was fine. The only annoying thing about Monaco is everybody complaining about Monaco

It was good they tried to mix it up, but it didn't work out at all. I think just having a rule you must do a pit stop between lap 10 and the end of race would have achieved what they wanted without the ####ery.

I think they need to find an overpass area on this circuit, and the only way to do it would be to ditch the neveu chicane. I think ideally you keep the track right of the trees where the access road is( JFK ave), because it sets up a braking zone and double left. Faster cars would have enough of a run through the tunnel and down the hill to get overtakes done so you couldn't drive like a granny and not lose a place.

That, or every team gets an extra $5 million for a Monaco spec car half that's the size. Do the best you can with a tiny budget.

Not that I think they really need to do anything different, but I have a random idea that they could try in place of FP2...not a sprint, but a 'Pursuit'.

Heat 1: The lower ranked WDC driver for each team lines up in reverse order. This year it would be:

BORT
COLA
ALO
LAW
BEAR
TSU
SAI
ANT
HAM
NOR

Every 7 seconds, a driver has to roll to a complete stop into P1, and go when the light goes green. Then it's a 10 lap time trial. When someone gets within 1 second of your gearbox, you have to let them past immediately - 5 second penalty for every mini sector crossed with someone in that range (so a smart driver would let them by in the best spot for themselves once they're within ~2 seconds). 10 second penalty for cutting the course at any time.

Heat 2:

HULK
GAS
STRO
HAD
OCON
ALBON
LEC
RUS
VER
PIA

Top 5 fastest from each heat advance to the finals. I'd need to think more about whether that would be reverse order or fastest first. Maybe this one is 15 laps.

Lots of ways you could do the points. I think I'd do 6-5-4-3-2-1 for each of the heats as a carrot to the backmarkers. Maybe the same for the finals or bump the winner to 9-6-4-3-2-1 as a callback to the 70s

It's a bit convoluted, but even dumb f1 fans aren't that stupid. At least most of us.

I've thought you could make qualy a bit less sketchy on short tracks by giving the top 5 WDC standings or whatever a buy to Q2. So Q1 is lower tier, eliminating the slowest drivers. This way, you only have 15 cars at most on track trying to find space, stay out of the way etc. Yes, you miss the chance of a top driver going out in Q1, but I'm OK with that.

Sorry for the delay...new puppy, new trip to Europe next, life is chaos lol.

Congrats to dammage79 winning the week with 4 correct slotted and 6 top 10 (nice efficiency!). P2 was Speede4 with 2&8.

Overall fleuryisgod stays atop with a 12pt lead over 3thirty and me

Spoiler!
