vehicles are the worst...if you owe more on your vehicle than its worth you paid too much and or couldn't afford it in the first place

Buy a used vehicle with cash and never have these issues...can't afford that shiny new toy? tough ####, you will be better for it anyway. Put that car payment into an investment that actually makes money

Scenario: someone hits/scratches your vehicle in a parkade, leaves their contact info - do i still need to give them my insurance info? I'm confused by these new rules in Alberta.

Thanks

If you don’t shop around - probably. If you shop around probably not.

My US in-laws are coming here for ~ 3 months from Florida as they do every year. We were gonna sell our third car to them $1 for that time. Can he get insurance here? No Canadian license but obviously has driven his whole life. Is it ridiculously expensive or do we just say they were borrowing the car?

Don't waste your time

Just let them borrow the vehicle.

Your insurance should cover them.

If you wanna be super anal just add them to your policy for the time they are here, but I wouldn't.

Here's my singular anecdote, having moved from AB to BC, private to ICBC.

Savings of 60% YoY, for my '24 car, '19 motorcycle. ICBC toll free support is fantastic, but like any registry it's exhausting lining up to go through the registration, licensing etc;

What's the equivalent to SEF27 endorsement in the USA? Get the in-laws to get that clause added to their own US vehicle insurance for non-owned vehicles (not just rental vehicles) in case your insurance doesn't fully cover them due to the duration they are borrowing the vehicle?

SEF27 is like $50 a year for me and covers non-owned vehicles (not just rental) and it isn't typically as one sided as some credit card fine print will say. I assume that it would be similarly cheap in the USA and still cheaper than adding them as an individual on the policy?
