That's what I love is when people with no kids make statements like that.
Parenting is only one factor in a child's development. How about families where one child is a fine upstanding citizen and the other has all kinds of problems? Same parents, same environment...
Maybe her parents are ultra-strict and she never misbehaves in their sight; funny how the worst kids in school were always the ones with the most strict parents.
Or maybe it's just because she has one less rib than men?

mmmm ribs.
I doubt that parenting is the issue, if we're going to toss blame around for somebody's actions maybe we should look at her teachers, or professors or her girl guide troop leaders.
What ever happened to accepting the consuquences of your own actions. She decided to make a pie, and fling it at someone. Thats her decision and nobody elses.
I hate the fact that people are so willing to spread around the blame.
Maybe he wouldn't have become a serial killer if he dad didn't smake him around.
Maybe whe wouldn't dress like such a gutter crawling ho if her mother had set limits.
Its almost as if we're saying that as soon as your parents or teachers or whatever perform an action against you your mind shuts down, and you become slaves to some impulse that was planted there.
We can still make decisions after we leave home or school or church or whatever.
We just don't take responsibilities for our actions because no one expects us to.
Sorry for the derail.
Rant off.

Actually they should all read The Secret, obviously they didn't send out enough positive parenting thoughts to the universe.

I am not sure she made the pie, did she?
If I were going to pie someone, I'd just buy it at the grocery store.

Somehow I think that remark is going to annoy everyone. Calgary will be annoyed a the lack of acknowledgement that it is a historic Calgary event. The rest of the province (especially Edmonton) will be annoyed at seeing their own events as subservient to the Stampede.
Forget the pie, somebody needs to hit Ed with a Clue Bat.

Only in Canada would we get all hand-wringy about the lame outlet we've created here for peaceful (technically) protest.
The day that a protection officer shoots first and asks questions later (at an event where this happens predictably) is the day that apparently non washing, hemp having hippies will have a lot more to protest about.

The speech posted on the provincial government's website doesn't include Edmonton Stelmach's gaffe:

Looks like someone got the mayor today:

Subject: Mayor Issues Statement on Incident Near City Hall
From: Vickie Megrath
-----BEGIN MD5 -----------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------
CITYBEAT - CITY OF CALGARY PRESS RELEASE
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Calgary - Late this morning near City Hall, the Mayor was
struck from the side by an individual with a cream pie. The
assailant, a middle-aged woman, was immediately detained by
the Calgary Police Service.
The Mayor said that he is disappointed that this sort of
behaviour seems to be becoming the "method of choice" of
people who want to make a political statement. Bronconnier
said, "As a public servant, you try to be as accessible as
possible. If people want to stop me on the street and talk,
Im always happy to do that even if they dont agree with
me. But this sort of behaviour is thoroughly unacceptable in
a democratic society."
The Mayor also thanks the members of the Calgary Police
Service on-scene, and in particular the arresting detective,
for the swift and professional conduct.
"Our police service is the best in Canada," said the Mayor.
"Seeing them in action first hand, I cant tell you how proud
and grateful I am for the work that they all do.

He was walking along the street.
It was a 50+ year old lady (according to CFCN news tonight). I wonder if her parents will punish her?

Better pies than bombs. Who is the last Canadian political figure someone tried to assassinate, rather than just throw a pie at?
Let them have their tasty, creamy, utterly delicious symbols of dissent, showing the world how we can all abandon the sour pleasures of political violence for the sweet, sweet arms of Pie.
Mmmmmmmmmm..... pie.....
