Please trade Rasmus. That is a must for me. Signing Rasmus for 7MM x 8yrs is a mistake even. Trading Coleman would be a bonus.

Keeping Kadri, Weegar, and Backlund for leadership is enough IMO. UFA market isn't strong this year. I don't see an obvious - we really need this guy or this guy would be interested in Calgary (natural fit) type context. Joel Hanley might be considered a 'UFA win' if we can get rid of Bean and Miromanov - sadly.

Rasmus Andersson for min. 1st 2026 (unprotected) + 2nd 2025
Blake Coleman for Dallas 1st 2026 (unprotected)

Next Year with NO UFA signings (unlikely):

Huberdeau - Kadri - Coronato
Zary - Frost - Pospisil
Farabee - Backlund - Sharangovich
Lomberg - Kerins - Klapka
Ready for NHL: Honzek, Kirkland, Hunt, King, Stromgren

Weegar - Parekh
Bahl - Brzustewicz
Bean, Miromanov, Pachal, Solovyov, Kuznetsov, Grushnikov

Wolf
Cooley

Not strong, but not many spots open to be honest.

Strange they shipped out Walman...

i think 2026 unprotected picks are going to be tough to get because it's a really good draft at the top end. So probably protected 2026 picks that divert too unprotected 2027s if conditions come into play.

For me Walman is mid not someone you build your d around, he's bottom pairing if that on a contender, he's been on waivers a bunch of times and is having a career year, brilliant move to cash in and get a 1st for him. It would have been like the flames inflating Bean's numbers and trading him for a 1st, SJ has to be feeling good about that trade

Georgiev will be lucky to catch on with a team next season. He truly does suck.

With a win in their season finale on Thursday night, the Calgary Flames will become the first team since 2018 to hit the 96-point mark and fail to make the postseason. It’s a relatively historic barrier to entry, at least in the salary cap era. Now what? Dustin Wolf nearly singlehandedly dragged the NHL’s 30th-ranked offense into the playoffs. The need is clear: they scored more than three goals in just 17 of 81 games. The Flames also arrive at this point, largely because of Wolf, ahead of schedule of spinning up a competitive build in time for the new Scotia Place’s opening in 2027. Wolf (likely) won’t allow them to be worse than a middle of the pack team. Is it time to get moving and for GM Craig Conroy to add this summer? If so, bet on a trade (or offer sheet) over adding aging free agents.

Presumably teams who want Calgary's vets are not drafting at the top end.

You probably want to protect yourself from having an unexpected season. Bad goaltending, injuries, or just a fall off anything can happen.

I kind of assume that a Backlund deal happens towards the TDL since his NMC changes in January. Same for Coleman.

Rasmus I can see someone wanting for the year.

Agreed, and I think the value of Backlund and Coleman is higher at the TDL.

Teams are always looking to shore up the middle of the ice, and Coleman has 2 cups.

I think we missed the boat on Andersson, and his horrific play injury or not has probably deflated his value so getting rud of him in the summer makes sense.

What I'm getting at is that at the TDL, more teams will know they are unlikely to be lottery bound.

Coleman has a 10 team list, I don’t think that changes next January.

He is the kind of guy that’s hard to trade later in the season because he is a big part of the leadership team. For chemistry, it’s better if he is moved in the off season IMO.

If the team had 10 games out of the last 31, or ~32% since the Frost & Farabee trade, with more than 3 goals then that is a lot less dire than looking at the first 50 games with only 7 games with more than 3 goals... or 14%.

Frost definitely helped the offence once he got acclimated. Coronato progressed by leaps and bounds during the season. I think you're on to something.

Frost improved the team exponentially with all the things that lead to goals and assists. Just didn't materialize on the stat bar. Instantly became the teams best puck carrier into the offensive zone, the best faceoff taker. Those two improvements alone were worth the cost of acquisition.

At worst he ends up Stajan 2.0. but I suspect he become a rock solid 2nd line center for this team for the next 5 or 6 years.

Frost has some jam to his game as well. Not a super physical player, but he battles hard for pucks.

I'm not sure why he was in Torts' doghouse.

Then best to get that now. Maybe even for picks in this draft.

We want things to come together for the new building opening right?
