Hurricanes are always good for the first round or two and then falter when they get to the later rounds.

I dunno. New Jersey has some exciting pieces, but the Canes play a better all around game for the playoffs and have Brind'Amour as their coach. Advantage Canes until Jersey starts playing up to their potential.

The Devils are the Wild West. Had a hot start and played a lot of games early. But since Hughes and Hamilton went down they're 8-10-1. Those are two pretty key pieces so it's hard to see them besting Carolina here. Canes in 5 in this one.

How annoying is it that a divisional playoff team in the east has less points than the Flames...Most years this Devils pick would be even better for us

Having flashbacks to all the conditional draft picks the Flames could have had from Dallas, Vegas and Vancouver, and none worked out. The Devils pick isn't conditional, per se, but favourable outcomes to improve draft picks don't seem to fall the Flames way

The only thing that can make the Devils' pick worse at this point is if they make the conference finals. I think it's a pretty safe guess that won't happen.

It is annoying - but part of it is because how imbalanced the schedules are and the bottom end of the Western conference being terrible.

Chicago, San Jose, and Nashville are by far the 3 worst teams in the league this year and the Western teams have gotten a little fat on those teams again this year (Flames are 9-1-0 against those 3 teams for example).

Much more parity in the East where the worst team in the East right now is actually Boston(!) with a .463 point percentage.
