Tons of birds and fountains in the summer. Plus, I don't have to look into my neighbour's kitchen window.

Illegal Stocking of Fish
Alberta regulations prohibit the transfer of live game fish or live bait fish or crayfish from one water body to another. The placing of any live fish or fish eggs into any waters of the province other than those from which they were taken is also prohibited. Report anyone you observe relocating live fish or using live fish for bait to the nearest Fish and Wildlife Office, or call Report A Poacher toll-free, 1-800-642-3800. The fishery resource that you are protecting is your own.

A pond near me was drained and scraped a couple of winters ago due to invasive goldfish. Technically "Prussian Carp" but let's be real here - they're just big goldfish, and some numpty put them there.

I could have seen this coming from a mile away. Thanks Troutman. Is using a water balloon launcher from my deck considered 'placing?'

Just screen in your deck and problem solved. I have a covered, heated and screened in deck and it's amazing - one of the best parts of the house as it can be used for most of the year.

Underused downtown office building being converted to U of C classrooms
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calga...sion-1.7506247
Quote:
The University of Calgary's campus is expanding into 801 Seventh Avenue S.W., formerly known as the Nexen Building, in Calgary's downtown — after the office tower has sat virtually empty for about six years.
The university's School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape is aiming to make the space its new home by January 2026, transforming 180,000 square feet across the tower and the annex building into classrooms, studios, labs and other teaching and research spaces.
"We're bursting at the seams because we've just created our new undergraduate degree, a bachelor of design in city innovation, and so we desperately need more space," said John Brown, the school's dean.
"In the same way that a medical school is located in a hospital, a design school needs to be downtown, [and] not just located downtown but integrated into the workings of downtown."

Absolutely love this. Great use for that space, and in, in my opinion, one of the most architecturally significant (and beautiful) towers in the core.

It's been known for a while. They already have a couple of locations in the DCD, I think they're exiting the building on 8 Ave/9 St SW.
Only thing that sucks is that there's almost zero +15 access to that building at the moment due to two nearby buildings being redone.

Good, architecture and planning students need to look beyond that system for their future visions.

I had heard UCalgary was taking up something like 8 floors in Nexen and was wondering what they would be putting there. Wonder if they are consolidating their other DT building om 8th and 8th and also moving those programs?
Regardless, it's nice to see a little more life in the west end of DT. My office is in the vicinity and it's gotten very quiet here the past few years.
