It's been a really fun season, watching young guys making great strides in their development and playing essentially playoff games at this point in this season. Let's keep this ride going as far as we can.

If you believe in hockey Gods, there has to be a reason the LA Wildfires postponed our Kings game to the last day of the season.
That game has to matter.

Feel like we’re on this spot more often than not. Maybe that says something. Almost like the definition of insanity.

You really don't see how it is doubtful?
I get optimism, but it absolutely is doubtful

Flames play the Sharks and Ducks this week.
Not sure how they're not the favorite in both of those games.
If the Flames win both of them, Friday has meaning(even if Minny wins Wednesday). I think it's more likely than not that Friday has meaning. I certainly would never think of it as doubtful.

That is uh... quite the means to achieve that end.

Right now its a long shot, but with each win the Flames bag (and these two should be very bag-able for a desperate team) the more realistic it begins to look. Even if the Wild beat the Sharks on Wednesday.
If the Flames close within 4 points going into Friday then beating the Wild on Friday would probably move their odds up to 30-40%. Then they have the Sharks again to really put the heat on Minnesota to win out.
Basically win 5 or 6 games and you're probably giving yourself a coin flip chance at playoffs.
If the Blues can rattle off 12, the Flames can pull off 5-6 wins.

Basically need everything to go perfectly from here on out. Honestly, I feel like it's likely that the Wild win the three against Vancouver, Anaheim, and San Jose.
However, the Flames have shown that they will throw everything at it to get there.
Interestingly the Flames would pick 17th right now, NJ's pick would be 18th and Florida's would be 21st. It could be possible that all three picks will be one after the other.

Care to revise that statement about the Blues don't matter any longer now that they lost? The Blues-Oilers game on Wednesday will be very important as to which team the Flames can possibly overtake.

Could you imagine if the Flames catch the Oilers? That would be priceless.

Do you really think the NHL would allow that to happen?

The Athletic daily. Badly needed win yet barely move. Other teams losing are just as important as the Flames winning now.
- The Flames are at 10% (+3%) to make playoffs.
- The Flames' median finish is 92 points (-), 5 points (-) out of the playoffs assuming the Wild and Blues hold the tie-breaker.
- The Flames are most likely to pick 16th overall (-).
- The Flames are projected to finish 9 points out of the top 10 (illustrative only as cannot finish top 10 at this point).

I'll add if we get within 2 points. Being 6 points back with 5 games left and not having the tie breaker...
basically it's a win out + lose out situation.
Not realistic at this point.
If the next few games go the right way (say the blues lose two and the Flames win the next two) then it'll be worth adding back in.

Overall I think a decent weekend. Flames officially can not pass LA, which I don't think was a surprise. I think the interesting thing is that the Oilers still have not eliminated the Flames. It is more than likely to happen, but here we are with 9 days left in the regular season and the Flames can mathematically catch them. I think they mentioned that McDavid might come back some time this week. I wonder if there is a chance to rush it under the circumstances.
At the end of the day, the Wild are still the main target. Although if St. Louis decides to go 0-3 in their final 3 games, it would open up the door.
Need to take it one day at a time and tomorrow night I think we will get some more clarity with the Sharks playing the Wild and we have a game against the Ducks. A perfect storm of a Flames win and Wild loss in regulation would set up hell of a Friday night tilt when they play each other.

Imagine the pressure on the oilers if the flames just held on and beat them last week.

Does it matter to us at this point what happens in the Oilers vs. Blues game? Mathematically, Blues are more within reach.

That three point swing we handed the Oilers on a silver platter really would have helped make this way more interesting.

If the Blues had just lost one more game during their 12 game winning streak they would really be gripping the sticks right now. Dang.

Since one of the teams is winning that game, might as well be STL as it will put some pressure on Edmonton nd maybe make them bring back players before they are ready. Minny is the target, but if the teams at 93 points can lose out to stay at 93, it does open the door.
