2022 was the last bear market... People's memories are VERY short.
Happy I bought a ####ton of BRK earlier in the year.

I've got a bunch of cash this time around, need to figure out what to spend it on when things start to recover.

Don't touch your investments. If anything, make your regular contributions.
It's been so long since a downtown in the market that people came to believe that things only go up.
Time in the market beats timing the market.

I just transferred over a significant amount to my self directed trading account, gonna wait a few days / weeks before I buy anything.

Given the massive fluctuation right now, tryna decide what to do with my investments; hard into VFV at the moment given the terrific historical return (VEQT before that). Wondering if I should just hold the line on this S+P 500 ETF for next 3.5 years, take a deep breath, stay the path and buy the dips.

I would buy hedged VSP, Trump is determined to lower USD.

I'd only buy hedged if you're either willing to keep tabs on it and swap it out if/when the Canadian dollar appreciates, or if it's for a shorter time horizon.
If you're just buying and forgetting about it for 20 years or something, hedging gets expensive, as most CAD-hedged S&P ETFs lag the index by 1-1.5%. Over long periods of time that compounds into a pretty big figure. So even over just 15-20 years, you'd need the CAD to be at about $0.90 USD just to break even on the hedging losses.

Well seems like some active investors here, so presumably they'll keep tabs on it.

Look at what is hardest hit... like Tech for one. Shopify is having a bad day.

Definitely, yeah. I buy hedged when the CAD is low as well. But even some active investors aren't aware of how much hedged ETFs can eat into returns over the long term, so it's worth remembering the cost of it.

Could take a flier on Nike or RH, big importers from Vietnam and hope those import tariffs are reduced.

Man what were y'all doing in 2022? At least bond funds seem to be doing something useful this time.

RH should discount their sofas by 40% to match the drop in their stock price.

Ive been sitting on a ton of cash for a while, up to about 35% cash right now.
Just need to try and time it. I can never time it right on the lows.

Down another 7% this morning ATM at $71.70, down from a peak of almost $180 almost a year ago. Why it would have ever been $180, though? Did they have an AI play?

Dell sells AI data centres, so ya. Bit of a bubble popping, and with a recession companies cut or delay this kind off expenditure, and with tariffs so many components are going to get way more expensive.
