Didn’t the Wild have like 16 wins in their first 20 games?
So they’ve been sputtering for almost 50 games now.
Actually checked and they were 14-3-3…still point stands they are sputtering…

Quick Magic numbers (Games/Points) for the flames to finish 1 point ahead of the team.
Edmonton (15.5/31)
Minnesota (13.5/27)
St. Louis (11.5/23)
---------------------
Vancouver (11/22)
Utah (9.5/19)
So a Flames Win or OTL or the opponents L or OTL will subtract from the number (1 or .5 for games or 2 and 1 for points).

I actually called the Blues winning the cup that year before the playoffs started, but 100% simply based on them being the hottest team in the NHL that 2nd half. They had size, speed, skill - they were a playoff team that went into the playoffs playing at a very high level consistently. I always pick teams like that to go far. This year, they are a scary team to match up against if they keep up their current performance.
The Wild are fading.. they always seem to fade, don't they? Just a consistently boring team that fades. Please continue to fade Wild. I really don't want to watch you in the playoffs anyway.

Generally speaking a talent upgrade on defence from kids this age would require a tremendously talented player. I can't think of anyone but Makar who made the post college jump as a D and A)made the roster and B) earned the trust of his coach.
I don't think that this will impact the playoff race significantly, but I yearn to be surprised.

Here are each team's playoff chances according to MoneyPuck:
St. Louis Blues - 73.1%
Vancouver Canucks - 19.2%
Calgary Flames - 18%
Utah - 0.8%
Utah is done. The Flames and Canucks are on life support.

Edmonton Oilers at 97% has to be a mistake.

The more likely path for either the Flames or Canucks making the playoffs is catching the Oilers. Looking at the schedules it is possible for either, most likely Canucks though.

The Kings too as they are only 2 points ahead of the Oilers.

Just a quick note for those fans (like me) who have been hyper focused on the Flames 1st round draft pick throughout this late-season push:
New Jersey Devils [GP: 73, PTS: 83]
Calgary Flames [GP: 70, PTS: 79]
Still an outside chance that our pick from NJD is better than what we give up to MTL. Especially if the Devils fully implode with all their injuries these last 9 games. Unlikely but possible.
They're 1-1-1 in their last 3 and play Winnipeg tonight.

The Kings are 10 points ahead of the Flames and would have the tie breaker. They are 8-2 in their last 10 games. Neither the Flames nor the Canucks are catching them.

Flames played well so it hurts seeing them come up with no points and the WC teams both getting wins. Updated Magic numbers (Games/Points) for the flames to finish 1 point ahead of the team.
Los Angles (16.5/33) 11 games left
Edmonton (14.5/29) 10 games left
Minnesota (13.5/27) 9 games left
St. Louis (11.5/23) 8 games left
---------------------
Vancouver (11/22) 10 games left
Utah (8.5/17) 10 games left
Flames 11 games left

Updated.
Removed Utah because they're 10 points back. Basically they have to win out to even have a shot. No chance.

Updates from The Athletic and SportsLogIQ. Tough, tough, night for the Flames.
The Athletic 14% (-12%)
SportsLogIQ 17% (-15%)

You can stick a fork in the Flames now, IMO they are done.
Now we just wait to see how high of a draft pick they give to the Habs, and how many spots they drop to the Panthers pick.

So basically the flames had to win out in your eyes to have a chance?

They were going to lose a game, I think what hurts a bit more after the game they had, is both Minny and STL trailing and winning.
By Monday morning they can have St. Louis and Vancouver in single digits. The key is to get the magic number below the number of games you have remaining. It gives you a bit more control of your destiny.
