Leylah didn't play all that great today in my opinion versus Alycia Parks, but she did win in straight sets 7-6 6-3. She will face Ashlyn Kreuger next who knocked off Elena Rybakina in three sets 6-4 2-6 6-4. Krueger leads the H2H 2-1, but 2-0 on hard courts. Leylah will need to really up her level to win.

No she didn't. Her serve is a serious issue right now with just way too many weak first serves that sit up in the swing zone. Until she gets that squared away, I don't like her chances of beating anyone above her ranking.

It shouldn't be that difficult to fix her toss, but it's still all over the place. That is step 1, but her whole service motion is like she's trying to kill a snake in a phone booth.

You've really got to sympathize with these guys who are 70, 80 and 90 ranked in the world. It's pretty brutal they have no place to play at an ATP level during these events (basically the entire month of March) if they don't survive qualifying.

The tour needs to either expand the draws at 1000s or start adding smaller 250s in the second weeks of these events. Vancouver and another U.S. city could easily hold a 250 during weeks of the 10th-16th and 24th - 30th.
I agree with all of the above HF, but would you be surprised to learn that Gabriel already has over 1 million in career earnings (a large portion of that I'm sure came from the US Open run last year). I didn't think he had earned that much money already. I think that is part of the PTPA's lawsuit, they are looking to better distribute prize money to lower ranked players.

Gabriel Diallo makes short work of Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-3 6-0. Very nice level of tennis from Gabe today, reminiscent of how he played at the US Open last summer.

Nice! The key to success for a player like Diallo is the destroy dirtballers on fast courts.

As luck would have it, Gabriel gets Arthur Fils next. These two guys have sure seen a lot of each other over the last 8 months.

If I didn't know this Fonseca - Tien match was in Miami, I'd swear it was in Rio.

Victoria Mboko just sent a breadstick to former WTA #2 Paula Badosa and has forced a 3rd and deciding set.

What a match between Badosa and Mboko.

The future of the ladies game in Canada appears to be in very good hands. This girl can certainly hang with the best on tour and should really take a lot out of this loss.

What a fantastic performance by Victoria Mboko despite coming up just short losing 7-5 1-6 7-6 to Paula Badosa. We've got another top Canadian tennis player on the rise, folks.

Edit: Just reiterating what HF posted above lol

She might have the best pure tennis profile of any of the recent Canadian ladies in terms of natural power, movement, solid ground strokes and not having to solely rely on a huge game to be successful.

Jaume Munar just demolished Meddy 6-2 6-3. Oh well, maybe Clayvedev will have better luck.

I was really impressed by how she was able to boss Badosa around in several of the rallies today. She just needs to clean up some areas (too many double faults and a little too impatient at times trying to hit winners from bad areas), but the mental focus at such a young age bodes very well going forward.

Mr. Oikos in a spot of bother here. Lost the 1st set 6-4 to Chun Hsin Tseng and currently leading 6-5 but on serve in the 2nd.

Another seed on upset alert to watch.

That was a costly loss for Medvedev, he will likely leave the top 10 when the next rankings come out.
