One of the things that that's needed to win a war is unity in a country, which the US doesn't have now. An actual invasion of Canada would divide that county even further and they would break into a civil war long before they could sustain any sort of military campaign. A military conquering of Canada is not a realistic possibility. We are much more likely to redraw the border into two new countries - The United States of Canada and Trumpland!

Gonna have to disagree there. Just because echo chambers make it "feel" like everyone's in agreement, I'd argue there has never been as big of a divide in the US as there is now. America's gonna eat itself before it tries to conquer anyone.

France’s research minister said a French scientist was denied entry to the US this month after immigration officers at an airport searched his phone and found messages in which he had expressed criticism of the Trump administration.

“I learned with concern that a French researcher” on assignment for the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) “who was traveling to a conference near Houston was denied entry to the United States before being expelled”, Philippe Baptiste, France’s minister of higher education and research, said in a statement on Monday to Agence France-Presse published by Le Monde. “This measure was apparently taken by the American authorities because the researcher’s phone contained exchanges with colleagues and friends in which he expressed a personal opinion on the Trump administration’s research policy,” the minister added.

A diplomatic source told the French news agency that the incident occurred on 9 March.

Another AFP source said that US authorities accused the French researcher of “hateful and conspiratorial messages”. He was reportedly also informed of an FBI investigation, but told that “charges were dropped” before being expelled.

There have to be tons of trans folks who would love to play sports in a safe and welcoming environment who just don’t bother right now.

Honestly, I don't know if that is possible considering the absolute numbers. This is legislation that has been drafted on a federal level to discriminate against a number that wouldn't require two hands to count on. In my life I have never seen legislation passed regarding so few people. In the guise of protecting women or some #### like that.

It is ####ing college athletics, I will never understand why so many people ####ing care about it. It is such an American thing to be upset about college athletics for a college they didn't go to, for a sport they don't care about and people who they couldn't name. Seriously college #### sports.
