Default Andersson discussion

What would you guys like to do with Andersson in the offseason? Maybe a poll here too..

If you keep him, what kind of contract would you sign him for? (Realistic)

I would definitely trade him, return doesn't even have to be amazing.. I would have loved to see him traded at the deadline but now let's see if he can help us get to the playoffs and then trade him. He did make a BEAUTY pass yesterday to Kadri but I feel like that stuff has been few and far between for months and months now.

For me:
Rasmus out, Parekh in, more draft picks in.

He is terrible this year.

They should have traded him.

Should have gotten rid of him after the first 20 games.

Trade him at draft or summer. Don’t want to commit for 8 years. Have enough retirement contracts

The team would have a much better makeup with:

1. Rasmus out
2. Parekh in
3. A physical shut down top 4 D-man in (maybe Bahl can become that guy?)

Rasmus is a jack of all trades, that doesn't seem to be doing anyone thing all that well. His offence has dried up, and he isn't playing especially great defence right now.

The Flames desperately need an offensive quarterback on the PP. Weegar is okay in that role. Andersson has performed in that role, but isn't now. Last night, he had his first point in 10 games. He's getting over 24 minutes of ice time per game, including 2:03 of PP/TOI/G. Has 27 takeaways and 87 giveaways.

Something's going on with Andersson, and it's not good.

My concern is the long-term extension. A shorter term might be worthwhile as the young guys join the main roster, but no way RA goes for that.

It's not his lack of scoring that concerns me so much, it's the diminishing speed (which wasn't all that much of an asset in the first place) alongside the fact that he seems to be second to most pucks in the D zone (and in front of the net).

You love the guy's intensity and his passion for the Flaming C, but sometimes, the best decision for the organization means business first. The Flames have a history of letting the heart strings prolong goodbyes...hope instead they find him a contender and receive some decent pieces while they can.

I love Rasmus and have a soft spot for him. It's going to be hard when the team moves on from him, whether it's this offseason, next deadline, or partway through his next contract after his NMC expires.

It's tough to rationalize keeping him with what he's shown this season since December.

He needs to be traded, unless he gives Flames one heck of a home town discount.

I think he is a good second pairing D on THIS team, right now. He might be bottom pair in 2 years.

Trade. If re-signing max 6m x 4 year. So trading him.

I probably wouldn't go above $6.5M for a contract. Anything starting with a 7 is too much.

Bahl does more of the heavy lifting defensively on that pairing, and Andersson's offense dried up a month into the season.

My dream scenario is for one Parekh, Brz, Mews, Morin, or even Poirier to take a top 4 RD spot in training camp, and the Flames to get another steady top 4 LD in the UFA market on a 5-6 year contract. This would make Andersson expandable.

I'm trusting that the Rasmus offers weren't very good at the TDL, and that Conroy thinks they'll be better in the summer?

Rasmus peak value was around christmas. Will continue to decline as days march forward and his play continues to crumble.

It's a sell low situation this summer.

Also maybe means a sign low situation so he won't want to sign, and will bet on himself bouncing back next season.

So, tough spot for the Flames.

He'll hopefully be traded this summer, should fetch more than Carlo did which was:

Top 5 protected 1st rounder in '26
20 year old prospect, recent 2nd round pick
4th round pick

I get the love for Parekh. But I don’t think he’s ready to be a top 2 NHL dman yet. He wasn’t even the best dman in Penticton. Let alone flames TC.

Think he’s a few years away. Not saying he won’t get there.

Because of that I would resign Andersson as long as it wasn’t rediculous. Otherwise you’ll just be bringing in another vet. Andersson is a leader on the team. Pretty sure they are going to try and keep him.

Andersson should be gone regardless. Not cut out to be a top pairing guy but a good #3.

Should still be traded regardless of Parekh.

The team that wants him likely doesn’t trade for him unless they know they can extend him. And that shouldn’t be Calgary giving it. We’re better off signing a 1/2 year stopgap as the middle pairing RD.
