That was incredible speed, wow.

With wheels like that, he could absolutely compete in the NHL.

He may be a rookie, but he shouldn't be allowed to win rookie of the year when he's 18-19 and already been drafted to the NHL. Makes a huge difference when you're in a 16-20 year old league and competing against 16-17 year olds.

It's like last year, Terik Parascak actually out scored McKenna in the WHL but McKenna still won the award because he was 2 years younger and what he did at that age was a much more impressive feat.

I was impressed and then I remembered that people skate past me and probably look like that.

It was fast!

Gridin's linemate, Felix Lacerte, is slightly younger and smaller, but has nearly the same production. He went undrafted.

Gotta think he gets drafted this time around.

Matvei Gridin wins the Michel-Bergeron Trophy, awarded to the QMJHL's best offensive rookie in 2024-2025!

An exceptional season of 79 points in 56 games for the young Cats winger! ⚡
A well-deserved reward for a spectacular player.

Well done Matvei!

in addition to Marty Gelinas, other former winners you may recognize include Sydney Crosby, Vinny Lecavalier, Danny Briere, both Turgeons, Nico Hischier, Nik Ehlers Pat Lafontaine, Stephane Richer, Jimmy Carson, Voracek, Lafreniere etc. oh and of course Rene Corbet!

Not to diminish him, but lets not forget that he was a D+1 rookie where most rookies are D-1 or D-2.

He is the Sergei Makarov of the QMJHL!

Looks terrific in this final preseason game.

Slick move at Blueline to set up Backs who could not convert on an empty net chance .

Then beautiful backhand between legs of Mr. Vezina he made look easy.

He is a #10. He is Pavel Bure - lite. Speed, size, shot, smarts. I mean, Bure was higher in each single attribute, and if it wasn't for his injury, I think he would be considered generational, so this is a style comparison. But damn, he reminds me of Pavel.

Bure comparison is a fun one. Looks a bit like him too.

Did not look out of place against a strong Jets team. Plays with confidence and poise at age 19.6

Going back and reading some of the quotes about him around draft. The following stood out "Only one player in the last 10 years in the USHL had a higher point total in his draft-eligible season than Matvei Gridin's 83 this year. That was Matt Coronato who had 85."

Suspect he sticks for a few games if Huby needs time to heal. Then gets some seasoning with Wranglers for most of the rest of the year.

Flames need to move at least one winger by trade deadline to make room for this kid in the top 9. Very crowded top 9 winger group with both Sharkey and Pospy likely having to play regular 4th line minutes even without Gridin in lineup. Nice problem for Conroy to have.

Good problem for CC. Lousy one for us. I am tired of seeing Sharky, Pospisil, and Farabee at the pointy end of the Flames lineup.
