Doesn't sound like a painkiller. Failed a PED test, so it was some sort of a steroid or similar. It's a lame excuse.

He's back for basically the entire playoffs, so it's almost like free player "load management". The NBA has now made it illegal to rest the starters before the playoffs.

If the NHL wanted to show some balls, they would have banned him for the whole season. If he was caught with actual PEDs (as opposed to a recreational drug or prescription), that should have been the actual punishment, at a minimum. He'll still have gains from the PEDs in a couple of months FFS.

The NHl doesn't prohibit it though, and there's no cap relief.

They can't.
It is what the NHL/NHLPA agreed to as the first suspension for testing positive for PEDs in the CBA: 20 games.

2nd suspension for PEDs: 60 games.

3rd suspension for PEDs: "permanent" (player can file for re-instatement after 2 years)

Yikes. I'm assuming Ekblad has to report for regular testing for a while. Surely he's not part of the "random" testing group anymore.

If he has been using PEDs and he goes off them and regular testing keeps him off them for a large amount of time, he's going to see a huge drop off in his abilities.

I wonder if it's those peptides (BPC-157) that people use for recovery.

That's the first thing that came to mind. TB-500/BPC-157 is quite the recovery cocktail.

It's an absolute joke that using PED's is only a 20 game suspension. It should be a 3-5 year ban like other sports.

He needs to be back, just in case of a Stanley Cup rematch... So here's hoping to his health. Enjoy the break Aaron!

Damn you prescription inserts!

Between the 20 games rest and the chance to absorb whatever caused the failed test, ekblad will be a monster in the playoffs!

Why would it matter? They can't trade for anyone. Tkachuk's LTIR gave them all the room they need.

I wonder how much of an effect it would have on his payday in the offseason.

I bet the pressure of a contract year got to him.

Of course Oilers fans are already whining saying he was drugged up in the finals.

He had 1 goal in the playoffs. Hopefully he’s taking better drugs now.

Well, they could trade for a D-man to get them through the remainder of the regular season, knowing that Ekblad will definitely be back for their 3rd playoff game.

Barrie is for a 1st; Flames, kindly help them out.
