Not sure where to put this, but the polling site fivethirtyeight.com is now gone, a victim of ABC News cuts.

That just makes good business sense. The odds of another fair election in the USA drops by the day, so why waste money on polling.

ABC bent the ####in' knee a couple months ago

Over the weekend, President-elect Donald Trump secured a $15 million payment from ABC News and a note of regret. It was part of a settlement of a defamation lawsuit that Trump brought against the network. Now, Trump says he feels that he has to sue other news outlets because the press is, quote, "very corrupt." NPR media correspondent David Folkenflik joins us now with more. Hi, David.

Trump's approval rating on foreign policy is taking a nosedive, which was bound to happen with all the insanity they've caused over the last 6 weeks with Ukraine, Gaza, and the stupid tariff war.
https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trum...kraine-2041126
Quote:
The survey, conducted by Reuters and Ipsos between March 2 and 4, reveals that just 37 percent of respondents approve of the way Trump is handling foreign policy, while 50 percent disapprove, giving the president a net approval rating of -13 points.
|
Quote:
The latest poll also shows that more people now believe that American foreign policy is headed in the wrong direction, with 49 percent agreeing in March, compared to 40 percent in January.

Hey, at least it’s increased to 49% from 40% back in January. Baby steps.

This thread isn’t gutter level like Reddit or X or Threads. There is points here in spots that is well thought out. Even if I agree or not.
However, I don’t think its a great place for discourse. Just attempt to try and rationalize how Trump got elected. If it’s anything other than Americans are stupid, your getting the MAGA tar and feather. That is a problem, as you can’t go past and solve trauma without understanding it. Some people want to do that, and you get the usual suspects jumping in to shut it down.
That causes an echo chamber. One that just results pages of panic. That is the echo.
Maybe there needs to be a thread of deeper discussion and one of venting. I dunno, but this thread while really interesting to read at times has its own echo.

Isn’t it only an echo chamber if people don’t share their thoughts because they’re worried someone might say they disagree with them?
If people are too scared to share their thoughts because someone might disagree with them, that’s not an echo chamber it’s a cowardice chamber.

But maybe they are just all really stupid? Like, they fall for the same bull#### over and over, compromise their "values" constantly because they buy bull####, justify it with nonsense, and frankly have shown zero evidence they aren't just really stupid? So maybe we should start there. Because not recognizing reality, no matter how painful it is, makes it tough to respond in any meaningful way.

I get what you’re saying. I have to take breaks from this thread because reading about stupid “deplorables” non-stop gets tiring. I know I don’t contribute much so I shouldn’t complain but I much prefer reasoned discussion on how to deal with Trump and his supporters.
A big part of that is getting the Democrats to suck a lot less. I have doubts that AOC (or any woman, sadly) could win the presidency but I wish they had more people with her level of energy leading the Dems. Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries are both total snoozes.

Depends on how people disagree. If they personally attack and dogpile those who they disagree with, that’s not really good faith discourse, is it?
It’s perfectly normal for people to not want to be subjected to personal attacks. I’m confident most of the posters here who say ‘suck it up, sunshine’ don’t post on forums where they would be the ones being personally attacked by the majority. That’s why echo chambers form - it’s human nature.
