I could see Dallas starting a dynasty run.

Jim Nil is the smartest man in hockey. No question.

Hard to argue with that. Amazing job they have done building without tanking.

Soooo - Seguin is skating, so back soon. Heiskenen was "month to month" a month ago. I bet he's a PO add, though Harley has been terrific as his replacement (in fact has a better PPG).

That forward setup is deadly:

Robertson-Hintz-Rantanen
Marchment-Seguin-Granlund
Benn-Duchene-Dadanov
Steel-Johnston-Bourque

Nobody is going to hold a bad month in Carolina against Mikko Rantanen.

They will pay him based on his previous 10 years body of work

How do they fit him under the cap, or is that a next season problem, and Cup or bust is now.

Yeah, not to mention Ottienger, who we know first hand has the ability to steal a series on his own.

Robertson Hintz Rantanen
Marchment Duchene Granlund is a solid top 6, damn

and then they still have Johnston coming at you on the third line with Bourque and Benn

Canes did pretty well here IMO

Turning Necas, Drury, and 2nd into Stankoven and 2 1sts is decent work

Hintz should be the happiest guy in the NHL today. Flanked by two 40+ goal talents.

Benn off the books this year (if I’m not wrong) that’s 9.5 right there

I would be hunting Johnston via offer sheet or Borqur next year.

Stars will be crunched cap wise.

Is this a depth chart or lines? Johnston is 3rd on the team in points he isn't playing on the 4th line.

THey are just getting out of Benn, so they replaced that with Rantanen. Big price to pay but they need to strike this season.

Hell, Johnston and Seguin (when he returns) are PPG.

Flames should offer sheet Johnston this off season.

I wouldn't be surprised if Johnston plays with Rantanen.

I think you are on to something. I would be willing to give up multiple 1st round picks for a franchise center.

I absolutely would but again that's the trouble with trading your picks. Flames don't hold their own 1st so cant offer sheet.

What happened?
I haven't been following the situation & had no idea they were looking to re trade him.

It would be one way to go - splitting the scoring. That team has options at forward like none I've ever seen. 3 Cs at around PPG and 4 when Seguin returns. Two elite wingers who you can separate or keep together. And a ton of very solid forwards like Marchment, Granlund, Dadonov, Bourque, etc.

For some reason, I was convinced that Stankoven had insane production during his first couple years, but looked it up and was surprised that I'm wrong. Why did I think this?!

They could make a deal with the Habs to keep their pick if that's a road they really wanted to go down.
