Of course they do, it’s a special category aimed at seniors. The land line is a small vice the wife won’t give up, an argument I don’t mind losing since she chooses not to have a cell phone.

People that want to talk to you on a plane.
Look I don't know you.
I get we are nearly sitting on top of each other, but #### off.
I have on sound dampening headphones for a reason, so I don't have to talk to you while I breath your farts.

A couple moved into my previously quiet neighborhood with their massively noisy motorcycles. They ride them to work at about 8am and home around 4pm, then out again at about 6am, and home whenever. It's always both together just to double the noise.
I console myself with the knowledge that for them (just like for all motorcycle riders) it's "just a question of time".
I assume it's the man who got the wife/gf into noisy motorcycles, so I hope he goes first and then she drops it like a rational adult would.

A few years ago I had to get a VOIP for a job. I had to pay extra for unlimited long distance/foreign calls. I thought it was odd.
I gave up my landline about 15 years ago, and if I wanted one now I’d have to get on a waiting list in case someone gives theirs up.

I had a guy move in across from me that does the same thing.
I retaliated by buying a truck with a throaty sport exhaust.
Now I get my revenge every morning at 6:45 while he can only annoy me in riding weather.

How is she receiving this text?
And whoever has the land line should be receiving the call and not pay long distance charges.

This is funny to me because one summer my truck broke down and I had to drive my Mustang to work for a few weeks. Now...this Mustang is a race car. It is so loud it will set off car alarms. At idle.
And...at the time I was working for Greyhound and my shift started at 4am.
Not an ideal time to fire up the race car.
So....as a conscientious neighbour...I threw her in neutral and pushed it out of the neigbourhood to the main street before starting it.
I had to do that for a few weeks. That sucked. But no complaints!

Had the craziest dream last night that I was talking to a stranger on an airplane about long distance fees and how nobody uses the proper names for holidays.

I’m an extrovert and if the guy next to me on a plane wants to chat, I’ll engage. It’s uncommon as I’m usually listening to a podcast. Last flight, my introverted wife chatted for a couple of hours with a young man. She’s a GILF so maybe he had his hopes up.

Sisters text me and I tell her. She makes the call because they are broke, stingy, inconsiderate, fiscally conservative. As long as she keeps phoning we don’t have to visit in person.

Geeze man, let up on the spicy sausage before bed. That's not a dream, that's a nightmare.

Hmmm...
The broke, stingy, inconsiderate sister texts you, asking your wife to call.
The wife incurs long distance charges to call them.
They obviously have a cell phone and could call at no cost to them.
Or wife could use your phone.
Do what you need to do to keep peace but seems unnecessary to incur long distance charges. Is long distance even expensive anymore? Since nobody ever uses it I could imagine the telco's really gouge people for it.

It took a bit to actually find long distance plans for landlines at that.
https://www.telus.com/en/home-phone/...distance-plans
$27 a month unlimited minute. I had no idea they still offered long distance plan.

Just keep repeating your personal thoughts on the weather and about peter12 and you having a beer. They'll want the conversation to stop way before you do.

Yeah, they are likely paying by the minute.
Even a cheap cellphone plan they could use their phone and wifi assuming they have that and just use an app to make the call since the sister-in-law has a cellphone.

There is still a ton of long distance calling and landline calling that still occurs. Although mobile phones are everywhere, that doesn't mean everybody calls everybody's mobile phone. There are a lot of free internet based calling apps but those also require people to have wifi and an internet connection, which in poor countries is not always an easy thing. In a lot of countries the government/mafia run the phone and internet systems to reap the financial rewards, not shareholders.
Not everybody calls from a $1500 iPhone. Lot's of calling from Canada to countries where the annual income is like $1000

"Probably wont happen again"
Guy next to me on the plane "whats that?"
"The last guy that sat next to me on a plane, he died"
Guy "Oh no, what happened?"
"Well...he kept talking to me"
