Organizers at the Calgary International Blues Festival say they are furious after learning about plans to pave much of the green space at the former Millennium Park.
Ah, nothing like a more pavement to make a wide open unshaded space more inviting...

Do they need to pave it so they can put up their vomit tents for events? If taxpayers are paying for it, I sure hope the naming rights were sold for a lot more than our costs. Are the details public on that?
The existing infrastructure, including a stage and amphitheatre, waterfall, clock tower, courts for basketball and volleyball, and laser lights, will be upgraded starting in 2025.
The amount of the sponsorship is confidential, a communications person with the city told CBC News.

I believe that is the justification for paving.

OK, I think we need to know how much this sponsorship is worth now. Because the only reasonable conclusion at this point is "not nearly enough." Cowboys stands to profit greatly from this. What did Calgarians get in the deal? It's our money, so defending the confidentiality of the deal is going to be an uphill battle.
I actually don't think that looks that much worse than how it is currently. Obviously they're doing this because they have to accommodate the Stampede tent, which is the whole entire purpose of them essentially buying the park.
Even with the expand concrete pad than what's there currently, it still function perfectly well as the music venue park it's becoming. If this was happening at Prince's Island, I'd be bugging.

Nice try Paul Vickers...
The Blues Fest organizer is already saying how this change would force them to need a tent for the venue, which they can't afford. Don't see how this change helps the venue continue to thrive for events that are not Cowboy's.

Is it impossible to do an event on the concrete without a tent, or is it a preference?
