The turning point was 100% the McAvoy hit on McDavid.
The fights at the start were the U.S. trying to act tough but Canada actually answered the bell and stood right in there.

But that McAvoy hit was the real "We're not intimidated by these guys" moment

One thing I'm wondering... when Makar comes back, is Harley eligible to stay on the team for the rest of the tournament? I thought he was great out there.

^I thought Harley was the replacement for Theodore who is out for the tourney, and he was going to be an extra anyway until Makar couldn't go? I agree he was good. Better than Doughty.
There are definitely some questionable choices, and losing Theodore and Makar definitely makes the blue line look pedestrian. But it's not like the WJHC thing where they left top tier guys at home. I wouldn't have taken guys like Cirelli or Marchand, but they're not egregious choices and they have been quite good at their roles for the most part.

I just think you have four elite centers at your disposal in 29, 97, 87 and 21. You can then have the following 8 wingers: Marner, Stone, Thomas, Bedard, Reinhart, Scheifele, Hagel and then take your pick on the last one (I'd take Guenther or Celebrini). Now make some lines and just roll them one after another and good luck to anyone standing up to that, because literally everyone is an elite first line scorer who can at any moment have a "#### you I'm scoring right now" shift. Every one of them is the guy the other team is scared of in the NHL and that they're praying gets off the ice ASAP. You don't have to take second liners, just take an entire team of first team all-stars.

Canada isn't alone in this, USA has done it plenty too.

Canada advances with a regulation win as does Finland. They both hold the tiebreaker over Sweden.
However, if that game goes to OT, then the US can allow Sweden to win to face them again on Thursday.

Don't get me wrong Canada should be able to score more than one goal but the softie was the difference in a game where neither team had many chances.
Doesn't matter now though, win Monday and then win Thursday. Chances of one team winning both of the head to heads isn't all that high IMO.

I didn't say they were scrubs. I said they aren't the guys you should have out there when you need a goal. Point should be, just as a winger, which he was for a bit.

Some of the takes here calling the US players "Nazis", traitors, or whatever are shameful. Some of them play for our teams in Canada. It's not their fault Trump is in charge. I'm sure many didn't vote for him.

They'll meet again, but don't lose to them twice.
Good game to size up their opponent. Cooper should experiment with different lines next game and go back to the drawing board to figure out their answer to the Americans' system.

Relying on McDavid to part the seas isn't going to get them far.

Crosby once shook Trump's hand at the White House as well. Crosby didn't want to, but he was there...

How about you take the politics to the off topic forum and in here we can talk about what the lines should be for Monday?

Kind of a boring game after the first ten minutes, so sick of teams just blocking the front of the net, not very entertaining hockey.

So it's okay to call anyone who was born in the US a Nazi? Okay gotcha. That's perfectly rational. My brother lives in the US and hates Trump. I guess he's a Nazi as well... Guilty by association because of the name on the flag on their chest.

No he is good then, follow along

Guy is threatening to annex our country daily...people laugh because he is a joke and says stupid things. People used to laugh in the Ukraine too. The time of "oh I just like the tax cuts I don't actually believe what he says" ect. is done. Trump supports Nazi policies, if you support him you are part of it.
