Well one person saying it should happen is "pressure" if you define pressure broadly enough.
That's how all these moral panics work.. find one tiny article or study or book or handful of people that say something (like kids are identifying as cats and schools are giving them litter boxes), then spread the moral panic and when someone says "no one is doing this" point to the tiny evidence that there was someone that did support it.

Which Liberal should we believe:
Quote:
Donald Trump is not joking when he says he’d like to make Canada the 51st state, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Friday, adding that the U.S. president’s annexation plans are related to Canada’s supply of critical minerals.
Trudeau made the remarks to more than 100 business, labour and industry leaders who were invited to an economic summit in Toronto hosted by the government and its advisory council on Canada-U.S. relations.
“They’re very aware of our resources, of what we have and they very much want to be able to benefit from those,” Trudeau said, as reported by the Toronto Star.
“But Mr. Trump has it in mind that one of the easiest ways of doing that is absorbing our country. And it is a real thing.”

Quote:
Defence Minister Bill Blair says U.S. President Donald Trump’s talk of turning Canada into the 51st state is not a “real threat.”
The minister is in Brussels to meet with NATO allies and the Ukraine Defense Contact Group. Blair and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had a breakfast meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte Wednesday morning.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Blair said that while Trump’s comments are “disrespectful and concerning,” he doesn’t see them as a serious threat.
“Certainly we’re concerned about those remarks, and I think overwhelmingly for all Canadians those remarks are offensive. We’re proud of our country,” he said.
“We’ve assured all of our allies we’re prepared to stand up for our country. I do not believe that represents a real threat to us.”

Good try though.

Dismissing something like this as "not a real threat" is probably pretty short sighted especially when someone unstable has laid out their intentions.

Maybe? I don't know. I'm not a national security expert. But that wasn't the point of your original post.

I expect he meant a military invasion is not a likely scenario. Because it isn’t. The U.S. officer class isn’t made of up lunatics, and they’re not going to launch airstrikes against CFB Kingston and paradrop onto the oilsands.

As unlikely as it is, I don't think the US military is in the business of saying no to the commander in chief. I also don't think the general American public would really care all that much, or care enough to do anything about an invasion. You can already see the seeds being planted for anti-Canadian sentiment.
The right is really good at ####ing things up, blaming others and then "fixing" it. See the UCP with the AHS file and the privatization of healthcare, or Reaganomics in general (two santa policy). My guess is that they continue to sow distrust of Canada and Mexico over the next couple of years and blame us for the ####storm they cause down there. Trump will continuously blame Canada, the trade deficit and our policies for the downward trend of the American standard of living (that they're causing). The American people will get more and more riled up and instead of targeting the administration they will continue to blame Canada.
Anyways this is probably all just fiction but I could legitimately see us being set up as the fall guys for Trump's/Elon's ludicrous policies.

Sounds like Singh isn't going to have to take down the government:
Quote:
The NDP's national campaign director has sent a memo to all candidates and campaign staff warning them to be prepared for a snap federal election as early as March 10.
CBC obtained a copy of the memo titled "Election timing and planning," sent on Wednesday to about 140 nominated candidates and their organizing teams.
"It is becoming more and more likely that Mark Carney will be the next Liberal leader on March 9th," Jennifer Howard, who is leading the NDP's 2025 federal campaign, wrote in the memo.
"If Mark Carney does win the leadership, we are hearing from many Ottawa sources that he intends on calling an election shortly after becoming Liberal leader."
The memo states that Parliament needs to return, given U.S. President Donald Trump's threats to Canadian sovereignty and the economic threat of tariffs. It also notes that none of the Liberal leadership candidates have contacted any opposition leaders to discuss emergency legislation to deal with Trump and cushion the blow to Canadians.
"On that basis, we believe the rumours of Mr. Carney calling a snap election are credible," the memo states. "Taking a page from Doug Ford's playbook, the Liberals believe that they can turn this crisis into a political benefit for them."

March 10th?
I read that as the election would be the 10th, which is impossible.
Calling for an election and then it being what 36 to 40 days later.

They would have had to call the election in January for it to be held on Mar 10. I think there’s a 60 day campaign window.

You realize all these ring wingers that you despise got elected because the left wingers that preceded them did such a horrible job.
You’re probably going to get one in canada in a few months for the same reason.

It's like talking to a brick. Reaganomics is a real thing. The 2 Santa strategy is a real thing. The Republicans are in power in the states, it's like you saw the word "right" in my post and got too triggered to read the rest of it. It had nothing to do with left vs right, I was talking about what's going on in the world right now.
Also pretty funny to assume I'm a left winger lol

That line in the article is poorly written. Thats why i wondered about it.
Liberal leadership race is done Mar 9 th
And after an election call its 36 days to a max of 50.
