Default Trump Threatens 50-100 percent tariff on Canadian Cars

https://globalnews.ca/news/11013600/...n-cars-tariff/

Quote:
“If you look at Canada, Canada has a very big car industry. They stole it from us. They stole it because our people were asleep at the wheel,” Trump said.

He added, “If we don’t make a deal with Canada, we’re going to put a big tariff on cars. Could be a 50 or 100 per cent because we don’t want their cars. We want to make the cars in Detroit.”

Does Trump even realize he's only hurting his own country's companies/citizens by doing so? Truly a ####ing idiot. But also, just another stupid thing to say to distract away from other things going on behind the scenes, as per Steve Bannon's playbook. This current conservative/republican/extreme right-wing movement is the worst.

The industry is completely integrated between both countries. Tariff Canada even 25% and it almost completely shuts down most US Assembly lines in Michigan, Ohio, etc. So the process of disintegrating it would be so immediately painful and expensive for US automakers and consumers.

Ultimately this bluster is probably mostly to freeze automakers current investment in Canada and inflict pain leading into USCMA renegotiation. Also agree there likely is some element of smokescreen to distract from the fact that they are gearing up to create a constitutional crisis by ignoring a court order to restore congressional funding. Much like the tariff bluster a week or so ago was occurring at the same time they were freezing funding to begin with.

And they’re basically the most expensive store in the area. At Walmart/Superstore Island Farms is $5.65 and at Costco it’s more like $5.25.

Yah Thrifty's is way overpriced. They sell Natural brand there (2 percent) for about $5.85 I think. I honestly don't know why I shop there so much. It used to be that the service at Thrifty's, produce and meat seemed higher quality to me. But now the service sucks. I should hit Country Grocer more.

When the orange rapist rapist refers to "subsidizing" Canada to the amount of $200 billion, isn't this just a trade deficit due to the fact that the US buys way more from Canada than we do from the US? Being as they have 10 times the population.

First off he's a liar, that number is closer to $45 billion for 2024, not $200 billion. I know it's tough to make sense of a rambling lunatic who constantly making things up on the spot, but what am I missing?

The same people arguing we need to not rely on the US also want us to destroy our own industries so we can rely more on the US. I don't believe these are deep thinkers.

You're seeing the new oligarchy rearing its head I think with the threatened 50-100% auto Tariff. Gives the american-made Teslas an edge.

Because he knows full well that 50-100% tariffs would be a massive blow to Chevy/Ford/Honda/Toyota/Dodge/Jeep who have manufacturing plants in southern ontario.

Relocating all of that to Michigan would not be a simple process, nor one that could be made overnight.

Meanwhile popular models like CR-Vs, Civics and RAV4s would blow up in price for the american consumer.

You guys complaining about milk at $6 per gallon have it good. We have been buying the A2 milk for a few years now because it is apparently easier for my kids to digest and causes fewer gut issues. That #### is $7.50 for two litres though. Also, my kids love cereal so they go through a lot of milk.

Huh? I'm not complaining. Just setting the record that milk around here doesn't seem very high priced to me.

People measure milk by the Gallon?
