Not a surprise at all. He never wanted to leave but also didn't want to come back for peanuts. A couple weeks back when at the prolonged impass, if he didn't take the more money you knew Toronto would offer, or anyone else, he was going to go back to NY.
It's like Kadri when he rejected to get traded here (Jankowski orwas it Brodie) because he didn't want to leave Toronto.
Same with Bregman, he's had plenty of interest but seems to want to stay in Houston.
Could Verdugo be a plan B for Toronto?

Verdugo is only interesting as a bounce-back candidate - terrible year last year a league average-ish bat the couple of years before. Doesn't seem like a good candidate for a corner outfield spot to me.

I hate that goof Verdugo. He won't sell jerseys and will look like a fool in the dugout. Hell no to him.

Agreed no to Verdugo. He's trash and his walk up music is trash too, LOL.

Wonder if Mets actually increased their offer or if this was what's available the whole time.
In the end $30M for 1 year with a safety net of 1 x $24M if you have a bad season this year isn't that bad for Alonso.
Decided to bet on himself a bit instead of taking the $75M guaranteed from the Jays and gets to stay where he wanted to stay the whole time.

Alonso is washed up anyways, right…
Now we can start getting our hopes up for Bregman?

I still think Moncada would be a solid buy low candidate.
Canha would be a solid under the radar addition.
Merrifield was solid as a Jay, bring him back as a utility guy.

Moncada would be a buy low candidate agree. There’s some upside there but the other guys are the equivalent of KK. There are some major flaws and the chance of any of these guys breaking out are slim. I’d rather they package guys and get a legit bat instead of playing roulette with mediocre upside.

Canha I like because he is still a good OBP guy, he is a good leader as well.
Grandal is another guy that would be somewhat interesting as a guy to split starts with Kirk.

Second catcher is one of the weakest positions on the team imo, I could definitely see them adding there. Getting someone who can split more evenly probably improves Kirk as well by reducing fatigue.

I truly think the Trump tariff thing is an issue. Plus reportedly Houston upped their offer to Bregman. It sucks because they really need that other big bat, but I'm also grateful too that the organization spent this much despite the money tied up in renovations, bad dollar affecting upcoming revenues, uncertainty around the Rogers stock and just overall political uncertainty. They could've played this conservative but have been spenders.

LOL, He has miss managed the whole off season
Can't wait to see how this team performs
Next key question, does he have the ability to sign Vladdy?

Probably got told no, by Bregman, even though they had the best offer again.
SD and STL still have to move out money, not sure who is available, but those are the teams I would think might be trade partners.
Arenado would make a lot of sense, but doubt he would waive to come to TO. Tatis Jr. is a guy whose name I have seen small rumblings about, but that would be a long shot, he has a reputation of not being the best teammate, but at 26 the talent is undeniable.

Tatis would save the offseason, along with a Vlad re-signing. The Jays do have a big carrot, named Bichette.

Something around Tatis for Bo + is an interesting option …

I'm actually curious...what do you feel he mismanaged this offseason?
The only thing I can think of is that Vlad doesn't have a contract yet.

So is Vladdy signing or what? This is the only news that kind of matters.

Almost every move,
Going into the off-season with neither Bo or Vladdy signed, and thinking they could at track a big name player? Clearly there are issues within Toronto... Why would high end players want to choose Toronto?
Wasting time on Soto,
Targeting players who clearly had no intention to sign
I would be curious from management, what is the plan?
