It's such a wildly inconceivable idea that the U.S. would invade and conquer Canada, but just for arguments sake, if it did happen, I doubt Canada would resist like Ukraine against Russia. I'm not saying people would be fine with it, but I also don't see Canadians making those kinds of sacrifices.

I could see the U.S. taking islands in the Arctic archipelago because they pretty much can, but I doubt even that would lead to an all out war. In fact, I would bet on it that they will start claiming islands up there.

I think the take over of Canada would be a slow burn, an erosion of sovereignty. They have already shown that they can use economic threats to make our government act how they want it to, and that will just continue. Eventually they will be dictating policies at higher and higher levels, followed by more "joint institutions", giving American agencies power on Canadian soil, followed by military integration, and economic union. The border won't be erased overnight, but over time.

Not sure if mentioned, but they reversed the mail ban on China. So they got that going for them, which is nice.

The EO about the 14th Amendent, suspending birthright citizenship, has made it to court, and didnt do well.
Judge Coughenour is an 84-year-old Reagan appointee. He sounds shocked and appalled that the Justice Department is defending Trump’s brazenly unconstitutional attack on birthright citizenship—condemning not only the president but also the lawyers lying on his behalf.
It is “apparent that to our president, the rule of law is but an impediment to his policy goals. The rule of law is, according to him, something to navigate around or simply ignore…for political or personal gain.”
“The Constitution is not something with which the government may play policy games. If the government wants to change the exceptional American grant of birthright citizenship, it needs to amend the Constitution itself. … That’s how the rule of law works.”

Wait, is he suggesting the justice department is also corrupt and not following the rule of law? Shocking that Pam Bondi doesn't have unimpeachable credential, and that she'd do thew will of a man who gave her money.

Half right. We all knew the GOP and Trump were going to be disasters, but we're still not at the end of humanity/western civilization level he was preaching.

Except the Supreme court is now so stacked with Trumpers than any lower level blocking is just temporary.

I was thinking about this the other day. US talking about Greenland (and Canada), is that partially because Russia is looking to take more land from Ukraine? Also, the smoke around China and Taiwan.

I don’t put Gaza attacking Israel in the same category as the others, but maybe Iran was hoping to get their claws on more land?

Seems as though some of the bigger powers are wanting to expand. I wonder if it’s just because of the Russians invading Ukraine, or if Trump would be musing about expansion regardless.

Isn't the Arctic a massive Oil reserve that hasn't been drained yet because of environmental protections from a lot of countries?

Of course America wants to Annex the places where there's massive reserves of Oil. It was staring us right in the eyes the whole time.

Imagine if Trump planted a flag right in Gaza too. Massive forwarding spot to claim middle eastern oil reserves.

Not sure Gaza has much oil, and if they did, it would have been drained with horizontals from Israel.

Some of you would probably like the book Prisoners of Geography. I read it 6-7 years ago and it pretty much lays these things out as inevitabilities. Why Russia needs Crimea. Why the Arctic is important especially once climate change opens up permanent sea lanes. The future of water (and Canada's role as holder of 1/3 of the world's potable water). And many other fascinating things. I recommend it to basically anyone even vaguely interested in geopolitics.

Honestly, if you were starting a game of risk with the current world, Canada would be an OP place to start. All the resources any civilization needs, peaceful and educated workforce, powerful allies. We've bunked a lot of it up to be honest.

Not Gaza itself but how excited would the rest of the middle east be if the U.S just set up shop right next door to Israel?

I say let's team up with some European nations on a joint Artic initiative. Form an agreement and then split the cost of building infrastructure, manning, patrolling, and defending across multiple nations.

How long before the Trump family decides Gaza is too small and annexes parts of Israel also?
