You can all rest assured Zary isn't going anywhere.

From what I was told, Craig has no desire to trade the main young pieces of our new core and is in the process of locking them up long term. Wolf, Zary, Coronato and of course Parekh are all off the table. The new guys are also not going anywhere, there's 0 intention to flip any of them.

With that said, Diss was insinuating that Buffalo has ASKED for Zary as part of any Cozens trade and that shouldn't be surprising. Zary is essentially a Cozens but younger and a bit less proven for a significant discount. I know that Buffalo has also inquired on Andersson (wont waive anyway) and Pospisil.

I do wonder if Sharky would be of interest, he's cheaper and can put up similar points. But I feel like other teams have better to offer.

Wright was brought up about 2 months ago as a Flames trade target, seem like most thought we could get him cheap when he had 2 points in 18 games. He has 27 in his last 34 and is 21. His increased production also came with moving to the 2nd line and 2nd PP unit. This is with 13 mins a game still.

CP is way off on Shane Wright because he isn't the superstar he once was projected to be. He still has star potential.

I'm just thinking we teach Frost to change handiness and we call it day.

He may have just popped. Too late now. I doubt he was ever available, and certainly not cheaply.

Gives me Daymond Langkow vibes. Solid, high end second line centre who will be able to anchor a first line on a team without a superstar first line centre. Would have loved to see the Flames get him, but the offers being thrown around here weren't nearly enough for a player of his caliber drafted barely two years ago.

The high price doesn't change the reality that the Flames are hurting for a long term solution at center. They don't have a prospect in the system who is trending as a top 6 center.

I say, you pay what you gotta pay.

I don't feel like Wright was ever really on the table, and very likely isn't anymore if he was.

But I would open the skirt for Wright.

1. Wright
2. Cozens

Trading Zary or Coronato for Cozens alone doesnt really make sense. I wouldn't do that either. But I would be tempted to see if there's appetite to include Byram in the package and that changes considerably what the central piece from our side could be.

I think what Buffalo needs are the veteran glue guys like Backlund and Coleman. These guys get the most out of young players and set the tone for the team.

What they need and what they want can always be two different things.

I imagine Conroy would be reluctant to trade his captain. Coleman, however, could be had.

Trouble is is i dont think we have what they want without a third party being involved.

Personally if it was bison and pospisil i would probably do it. Pospisil is a bottom six winger. Bison has the skills to be a top six wing. Will probably hit 30 more than once, but is slightly undersized and good but not great skater.

Cozens has a better track record depending. You can see his 30 goal season as an aberration and the borderline middle six center the last two years are who he is.

My caveat to that is his age and circumstances as well as circumstancial evidence.

He is already a borderline middle six playing for a coach that doesn’t like him. Based on what we have seen other players who leave there become successful as well as cozens good showing internationally.

If he starts to excell i see a top six or better player at center.

Kadri
Cozens
Frost
Backs

No superstars to be sure but really deep.

Love corronato but would probably do that trade.

Coleman is exactly what the Sabres need, but they are probably on his no trade list.

The talk of trading with Buffalo and players with them on no trade lists is supported in this article about a player poll.

If you have a no-trade list, what’s the first team on it?

Winnipeg Jets - 48.78%
Buffalo Sabres - 19.51%
San Jose Sharks - 8.54%
Calgary Flames - 3.66%
Ottawa Senators - 3.66%

Stands to reason since they're only asking the first choice of players that all five teams are on most no trade lists. Unfortunate for us

Won't be surprised to see a big shift as the team builds. A goalie like Wolf makes Calgary a much nicer destination moving forward. Plus the new arena, and stories like Farabee and Frost getting picked up in the jet.

I am fine with the following center depth for the next couple years

Kadri
Zary
Frost
Backs

Go grab a guy on the UFA market if you want a little more depth. Definitely would not trade a guy like Coronato or Zary for Cozens. Those two are already tracking to be better offensive players than Cozens. The Flames should see where they are at in 12 months and possibly trade some of their organizational depth for a center if they must.

I'm not sure the Flames see it that way,

Guessing Backlund could retire at the end of his current contract (2026)

Kadri in two years is 37, he might fall down the depth charts.

I definitely get why the Flames are speculated to be searching for additional centers.

#1 center is likely the concern.,
