Trump was asked about DEI hires.
“If we find that people aren’t mentally competent…these are not people who should be doing this particular job.”
Ironic given the deranged man in the Oval Office.

I thought there were rules around when the military can be deployed on Canadian soil? (Maybe I've watched too many movies)

No clue if those types of Laws exist in Canada.
I believe they exist in the US

I find it sad that Trump can basically say any wild, batshiv crazy crap he wants, and everyone just brushes it off as Trump being Trump. He just gets a free pass on anything now. If any other person (except maybe Musk) said half the insane crap he says, they'd get cancelled right away.

Imagine if Biden or Trudeau said that immigrants are eating your pets, and then doubled down on it when rightfully called out. They would be instantly ostracized / disqualified from any further political employment, and the public backlash would be chaotic. The double standard is insufferable.

What are the chances that RFK jr actually gets the confirmation votes for HS. What a disaster that would be…he’s an absolute wing nut, like this has to be a joke right?

TIL that Cheryl Hines, Larry David’s fictional ex-wife from Curb Your Enthusiasm is RFK Jrs wife. This seems so strange.

I always thought of him more as 'dandelion' or 'marigold'. Not really a pure orange.

Yeah, more "end stage liver/renal disease" with fake tan topper than carrot.

The hearings are immaterial. Kangaroo court type stuff.
If Dear Leader nominates someone, they get confirmed. That's how it works.

So apparently the tariffs will be applied this Saturday. Can oir politicians (especially Smith) stop deluding themselves that this has anything to do with the border and fentanyl or whatever bull#### excuse it is this week. The guy obviously is doing whatever he can in order to enrich his friends, make money via tariffs and then cut income taxes to the wealthy. The people who will be left paying the bill are the impoverished masses while Musk and the rest of the oligarchs acquire more wealth.
At this point the only thing that can be done is to buckle in for the negative impacts to the Canadian economy and better support Canadian made companies and products. Part of me thinks that they should go for broke and put an export tax on items going to the states that are required ie oil and energy. The damage is going to be done why not acquire wealth from yourself in the process and then distribute it accordingly.

I’ve stopped buying American where there are any reasonable alternatives. It isn’t going to break anybody, but any little things I can do, I will.

Canada does plan to enact retaliatory tariffs. In fact, they did this already when Trump instituted 25% tariff on Canadian steel and aluminum in 2016. The market responded with a spike in steel prices.

I honestly wonder what the US will look like in 2 calendar years.

I'm not an economist but an export tax placed on natural resource revenue will cost the American consumer more would it not, and there really isn't the infrastructure to support any meaningful alternatives. The weird thing about this talk about a trade deficit is that the United States needs many of these products such as oil and energy and while they do have natural resources they are difficult to extract and transport and it would take years to develop the same infrastructure.
Putting the screws to the administration seems like it would damage the Canadian economy but also extract wealth out of the states in the process.

Canada had their own 'reality TV' national icon version of Trump.
When he went after immigrants, instead of electing him President, Canada kicked him off TV.
His name is Don Cherry.
That's the difference between Canada and the US. The US elected Don Cherry to the most powerful office in the world... because he says crazy sh-t on TV.

Yes, and this is what Danielle Smith doesn't want to do. In reality, Alberta (and Canada) should curtail production, which would hurt the US and force the issue as well.
Trump says he is deciding today whether to put the tariffs in, and whether they'll include oil.
