A friendly reminder that if we get enough SuperChat donations for the Youth Centre of Calgary, Cami has promised to judo-throw Gould on-camera for everyone's amusement.

I'm with Rhett, I didn't even notice there was a heated debate, seemed like a standard Barn Burner argument, they literally had the exact same one with Seravalli last week. just farming drama for youtube clicks?

Rhett - "Why? Quit?"

Boomer - "I don't know."

Rhett - "I feel like it wasn't combative"

Boomer - "I don't know... Umm... A lot of people were talking about it. I got messaged, saying 'hey, things kind got going yesterday.' I don't know. So I don't know..."

Rhett - "I must have misread the room, cause I didn't... It was a nice conversation."

Boomer - "What it means for the show, I'm not sure. I'll be off tomorrow. Ryan will be back. He's off today...."
People are reading too much into this, lol. Pretty sure Boomer's "What it means to the show, I'm not sure" is alluding to specifically the show today. Not the show in general

Manufacturing conflict is part of the gig. Makes for good radio. When everyone agrees it's boring. Pinder plays that role perfectly.

But again, his take is flawed absent knowing what he wants them to do.

I think the entire thing is over blown. This year is defined by:
- Not being in full control of their pick
- Wolf emerging not just as a capable starter but the team MVP
- The team managing to stay in the thick of it
- A lack of tradeable assets and pending UFAs.
- An average to weak draft including at the top end.

The team will likey be worse in the next 2-5 years and have opportunities to get higher picks. The fact this year has not gone according to this script honestly doesn't change much for me.

Um if Pinder quit it wouldn't be the same and I would probably find something new to listen to.

I don't share your optimism (or pessimism I guess depending on the perspective). I think this team is at, or really close to their floor at the moment. Especially if the best of Dustin Wolf is still to come.

Unfortunately, I don't think the ceiling is that high either, at least not without some major adds to the roster.

I was fully on team tank not that long ago, but now I am sold on Wolf. An elite goalie can make up for a lot of short comings. It would be a shame to waste what could possibly be his prime by treading water for the next 5 years.

I agree that’s the way the year has gone. But if the braintrust were intent on collecting more futures and finishing lower in the standings, they could get nice returns for Andersson, Coleman, and Kadri. Whether those assets would be worth the hit team culture would take is another matter.

Andersson yes.
Coleman and Kadri - only if they are willing to go. Doesn't seem like they are. That's why I don't think they are tradeable.

It's the valid answer. If you rewind time 1 month and trade Andersson before Christmas, I guarantee we are in the gutter right now.

I am not sure there's enough time left, as Transplant is fond of pointing out.

I know your take is that it doesn't matter, but to me it does. It pushes the actual contention window from 2-3 years to x +2-3 years where x is the amount of time it takes us to draft a 1C in the top 10. And with Wolf being so good now, that is in question as the x will have to be pretty short to ensure both windows are open together.

I just don't think the trading of a single player would impact the outcome that dramatically even if that was done back before Christmas.
And if it's true that Andersson is THAT important to the team, then all the more reason why the team SHOULD evaluate keeping him. Because you are talking about a single player being responsible for the team having 10 points or more than it currently does.

Trading Rasmus "for high picks" resembles the issue I saw with one of their suggestions on yesterday's show about Pittsburgh trading Crosby "for a top 5 pick". The teams that want those guys usually don't have those assets. How are you going to get those for players that potentially put contenders over the top?

Ultimately you do have to suck and "earn" your own high picks to get what Pinder is saying they need. And this team doesn't look poised to do that.

Yeah, trading Andersson won't get you a top 5 or even top 10 pick. What trading him does is keeps in line with what Conroy has spoken to - trading vets coming up on free agency so we don't pile up long term contracts on 30+ players and continue to add as many picks as possible while not being afraid to make moves for under 25 year old players with potential to break out.

Andersson likely gets you another first round pick bullet and a prospect with potential to turn into a great player here. And you do that, imo.

Pinder "possibly quitting' because things got heated is so tongue in cheek, you can tell Boomer's not even serious there. They're just trolling all the people listening who think there's actual real beef between them when this has been their thing on air for years lol. They totally play up the "conflict" for fun.

The thing I like about Pinder is that he does the research. He is the one that does the research and knows the numbers about everything, Warrener gives the 'player perspective', and Boomer does the money? Pinder does go on too long about stuff sometimes, but at the time same, he gets egged on hard, especially as they switch goalposts during the argument and Pinder forgets where they were originally. Then Boomer will always say: "I will say this, but then we will move on"...

Manufactured arguments at their finest.

As for winning - I find it funny that when the Flames are supposed to win, they hire coaches that forever fail expectations (outside of Sutter's recent return). Then when they go rebuild, they have coaches that maximize the potential of the roster. Yes, Wolf is a big part of that, but either this team has a habit of playing exceptionally well when the pressure is off and they die when the pressure is on, or they just keep hiring the wrong coach at the wrong time! HA!

Whatever happens, I just hope that Conroy stays patient. Let's see what happens next season, rather than assuming they are further ahead this time around.

These guys have been together for years and years. Do you really think a small argument is going to make one of them walk away?

They are literally good friends outside of the show lol. Give it a day or 2 and everything will be fine.
