I'm absolutely positive that it isnt true. Although, out of all 'Fan Votes' for Franchise names, I dont think the Ownership or Management ever acquiesced to the fan vote result.

Normally the Owners just go: "they voted for what? Screw that. I own it and I'll name it what I want. Rig the vote if you have to."

Upon hearing that the name had been leaked, ownership reversed course, deciding against the name due to outrage from fans. I’d say that worked out for the better. “Rocky Mountain Extreme” sounds somewhat like what some sports drink or XFL team would be called.

All that being said, there were several other name ideas for the new Colorado franchise, and fans got to vote on it. They were: Rapids, Wranglers, Cougars, Black Bears, Outlaws, Renegades and Storm.

I think we’ve simply reached the point where all the good names are taken already. I think a recent example of this is the PWHL team names. They’re all pretty bad but I just think it’s too difficult to find a good name that isn’t taken.

I actually like it. Yaks are awesome animals. Years ago I knew someone who had a yak on their hobby farm. It was very smart with a lot of personality, kind of like a goat and better recall than a lot of dogs I've met.

I think people tend to over think it these days. Just pick a cool animal that hasn't been taken yet. Animals always have marketability and don't really go out of style.

The only good name out of those 3 finalists is the Mammoth, so I hope that wins. Wasatch is dumb (why not just go with the Utah Mountains if that's what you want to go with?) and while the Utah HC name could work in another sport or league, when it's the only "Hockey Club" name it sticks out and not in a good way
