Zayne has had to deal with adversity his whole career, he’s had to overcome all sorts of labels through junior hockey and now has had to watch as his childhood dream to play at the WJ’s was taken away from him after winning the CHL defenceman of the year and putting up record numbers in back to back OHL years.

Sitting at home he gets to watch Canada struggle severely and listen to the panel and all sorts of hockey media question why he’s not there either, which only adds to the chip on his shoulder. Could you imagine being the best defenceman in JR hockey and not make the team because of political reasons? I’d be absolutely pissed and at that age I know I’d want to say a lot more than he has.

I see nothing wrong with how he’s acted in this case or how he speaks his mind, in fact I’d prefer guys who have that drive and desire to be the best and want to be apart of something.

Don’t forget he graduated high school at 16 so he could focus on hockey… I would say that’s more mature than about 95% of the CHL. What can’t be lost is he’s still a kid, so he’s going to at times come off like one.

He’s a good kid, he’s motivated beyond words and as sad as this situation is for him and the other snubs I think it will make them all better.

I just hope Hockey Canada gets its much needed enema, and that starts with Salmon.
This. Salmon has to go.

Not directed at you, I just hate the mindset (if true) that a player being a few months older trumps another player who is clearly better. Doesn't make much sense to me.

Hopefully things change after this year and they just start selecting the best team based on skill rather than their birth certificate, and possibly other lame excuses (favoritism, race, etc)
This is exactly what this same ish group at team Canada did with Makar. He was the best player on the ice the year he played, and they played him about 5 minutes a night - their way of sending a message about choosing NCAA over CHL.
Start at the top and tear this arrogant, vile group down. Please

Let’s be honest, Parehk alone wouldn’t save this team.
The team was selected poorly, I was going to go through each player 1 by 1 but honestly I can’t be bothered to waste my time on a team that was horribly selected by a corrupt group of executivesc coached by a guy who’s talking to the media about how he doesn’t even care to be there and downplaying the importance of this tournament to Canadians… Listen to his post game interview after the US game, the guy looks like a deer in headlights, in way over his head it’s embarrassing.

I do appreciate Bobby Margherita calling this team and coach decisions out though. I also loved how Duthie on the panel said this tournament is up to Canadas best players now and unfortunately Canada didn’t bring those this year

Scoring is at a historic low, almost 2 decades low. Just 10 goals in 4 games with the worst powerplay in history.

Akey - Said to be one of the best offensive threats while defensively elite before the tournament. Has been absolutely invisible, with no impact.

Dickinson - Has been lights out in junior and should have made the team no doubt. Easily an elite 2 way defender but he’s not looked anything like himself in this tournament. No impact on either side of the puck and has struggled almost every game so far. Most disappointing player on the backend for me, but Coach dip#### has also not given him any PP time so it’s not all on him.

Mynio - Substitute, did well at taking bad penalty against the US. When Canada had their last strike to make a change with the unfortunate injury they still found a way to mess it up.

Bonk - Not much to say here, basically chosen because he was on the team last year. Not at all one of the best defenseman available for Canada this year and yet Cameron has put him in the #1 spot getting the most PP time on the backend which he doesn’t even get on his junior team because that’s not him. An absolute travesty.

Price - Elite defensively and has played pretty good so far. Every year they select at least 2 strong defensive guys to hopefully shut down other teams top guys so I understand this pick.

Molendyk - He’s 19 and he’s normally an elite skater.. that about sums up his selection qualities over a plethora of other kids who could and should have been selected. I’d say his play can be summarized as “meh” with nothing standing out at all for the most part.

Schaefer - Should be there, looked good and yet Cameron wasn’t playing him as much as he should have. Sad and unfortunate injury as he was our only hope for backend offense.

Not selected but should have been there or at least given a real shot (no particular order)

Yakemchuk
Parekh
Mews
Morin
Marrelli
Dragicevic

We’ve beat this to death, myself probably the most (sorry!) and that’s because we’re just passionate fans who love to see our country win. That starts and ends with the best team being selected.

Parekh interview with TSN

https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/valji-parekh-...inaw-1.2232310

Quote:
TSN: What do you feel, in hindsight, you could have done differently? Did anything catch you by surprise?

Parekh: Not much. It was a weird scenario where I came in after an injury and it was really short turnaround for a camp. I don't know what I could have changed. I think maybe just trying to do what I do best more. I think I was really worried about what people were telling me to do. I had a lot of people trying to tell me what to do in terms of the way I'm supposed to play and show my game. If I would have done it differently, I probably just would have played the game I usually play. That's with pace and with the puck and being creative.
Quote:
TSN: Did anyone from the Flames reach out after all that happened?

Parekh: After I got sent home, I texted Ray [Edwards, director of player development], and then [general manager Craig Conroy] shot me a text, and kind of cheered me up and made me feel better.
Quote:
TSN: The Spirit are gearing up for another playoff run. How different do you feel your game is now compared to a year ago?

Parekh: I feel a lot heavier out there. I think there's a lot more to my game that's grown on the other side of the puck. With the puck, I feel more dynamic. I feel like I’m really controlling the game from the back end. That’s all I can ask for from myself. Obviously I took on a bigger role this year, not having the same kind of group we did last year and all that talent we had. So, it's a little bit different for me but I’m really happy with how things are trending lately.
Quote:
TSN: What specifically are you doing to get better on the other side of the puck?

Parekh: Yeah, me and Ray work together, and we talk a lot. I think just getting to hands more [when checking] has been a thing I've been working on a lot. As long as I'm ending momentum, is what Chris talks about a lot. [That’s] something that's in the back of my head. So just kind of make that a staple in my game and work from there. I'm probably never going to be the best shutdown defenceman in the NHL, and that's not what I'm trying to project, but just trying to become really good on my own end so that my coach can have trust to put me on the ice.

Parekh has 8G, 5A, 13P in his last 3 games.

He is now over 1.5 PPG and is 1 pt behind Mews for the OHL lead among defensemen

Edit: last 4 games

This is actually insane whether it’s 3 or 4 games

lol. Love that. Probably drove Camerron nuts watching Parekh dismantle his team.

Cameron will cancel the next few practices because he thinks his team is too tired.
