And how do you place a spike belt? You need to figure out where the car is going, get there ahead of it, and somehow not endanger other cars on the road. Didn't a woman in Edmonton die a couple years ago, because her car hit a spike belt meant for someone else?
I keep seeing posts online that the cops should have "taken out the car." But again, how do you do that in crowded areas, without endangering other people.
I don't think there's any easy answers here. Whatever the police chose to do, it came with high risk of an innocent party being hurt or killed. Such an awful, tragic situation. I hope the family and all the others who witnessed the crash get the help and support they need.

Yup, I agree, which is essentially exactly what I posted.
Within the context of the factors that are available the Police's hands are pretty well tied. Monitor the situation and hope you catch a break.
They kind of did but unfortunately that break came at the cost of a 9-year old girl's life.
And that is a tragedy. But there is only person upon whose feet that blame lies. The Police couldnt have done anything about it. I dont feel they could have done anything more than they did.
I cannot in good conscience say that the Police didn't do all they could. It was an impossible scenario.

Exactly.
Maybe 1% of posts online regarding emergency situations are written by anyone with even half a clue.
TV shows make these situations seem tense but with a safe solution. No such solution exists. Police did pretty much the safest thing they could here and there was still a horrific outcome

Man, so many annoying dogs lately. Why does anyone have dogs when cats are available as a far superior pet? Bonus points for when a dog is already annoyingly yappy and then the owner doubles the annoyance by yapping back at their stupid dog the whole time.
WOOF WOOF WOOF!!!!!!! MINCY SHUT UP!!! STOPPIT!!!!!

The police handled this situation exactly as they should have, they attempted a stop, he took off and then they followed with HAWCS. This bozo wasn't going to church or to volunteer at an elderly care home, he was enroute to his next robbery and crime most likely.
This sorry excuse for DNA matter wasn't on planet earth when he was barreling down the road, this isn't Hollywood movies, they can follow from quite the distance and given the time of day, he would not have been able to hear the chopper. It's doubtful he knew it was there.
Some poor first responder or concerned citizen probably administered Narcan in recent weeks to save scumbag #1 and the revolving door of judges probably thought this mental midget could have been rehabilitated.
It's beyond tragic for all involved and I hope I am wrong but we aren't done with the tragedy yet and should expect more awful news soon. This family will never be the same.
Scumbag will probably be released in maybe 5, 6 years max time behind bars. If any CP members come across this guy, do us all a favor and forget the Narcan and 911 calls .

Or maybe just donate to the gofundme and continue using narcan and calling 911 if and when the opportunity calls.

Maybe I am old fashion but the people who are directly responsible for children's death can probably just die. Really no need to waste additional resources. We have been down this road with this guy. He is beyond savable.
Only guy in Canada coming to the defense of this child killer during Christmas and it's Calgary Puck's Pepsi.

I think his point was don't be stupid and not help people in emergency situations. It's a goofy comment to begin with, as if anyone in Calgary would find an overdose victim and be like "wait, make sure it's not that guy that caused that accident before we help him".
With all your thread bumps on any and all crime and then attributing it to society being lost, I think that other poster had a good point. Maybe stop doomscrolling, you seem all consumed by crime and your supposed understanding of it and what needs to be done.

It’s absolutely horrible man. The whole thing. Nobody knows as far as I know who the perpetrator was or what his past was. My thoughts truly go out to the families smashed by this. If you regularly travel on MacLeod and around Southland Drive, this could’ve been any one of us.

Yeah, our families were around the area earlier that morning. We had a bunch of folks in town for the holidays and we got together early for breakfast. Easily could have been any one of us or our families on the board here.
Looks like police announced the arrest and reddit doing it's thing. His facebook page is certainly . . . something. He'll get a gladue pass and be out quick enough.

When it comes to not chasing, the hope is that the person will at least not 'drive crazy' to 'try to get away from the cops'. That's also what usually happens. The person goes to 'at least somewhat normal' driving thinking that they are getting away and trying to draw less attention to themselves.
Most people forget about HAWCS, especially because when it's following you, it stays far enough away that you can't easily see or hear it.
This case really seems to have been a no-win for the police.

His name is out there and his Facebook profile is open if you want to join the dozens of others directing death wishes to the appropriate place.
Or you can hang out here and continue with whatever this is. Tell you what, you can apologize for accusing me of defending a child killer for saying you shouldn’t hesitate to use narcan/911 for those in need by donating $1000 to the gofundme, tough guy.
