I'm very excited about Mews and Battaglia and Basha. Of and Misa. Misa by default is under the radar because of his younger brother. The true #1 oa pick of the 25 draft.
I agree, I thought Mews was a late-first rounder.

To me, none of the guys in the organization are “the guy” except Parekh and Wolf. And clearly, it will take Parekh time to evolve the other parts of his game to be NHL-ready.

I don’t believe any of their other “the guys” have been drafted yet.

This is going to take a while - they don’t have a ready-made superstar like Johnny going pro just as they begin to rebuild in earnest.

At the end of the day, prospects are like sea turtles - for every one that makes it to the ocean, a hundred were eaten by the gulls and crabs.

If nothing else, we have a lot of baby turtles.

Kuznetsov never gets any love. But he’s solid.

Like Kuznetzov, you don't hear much about Grushnikov either. No points so no attention.

How has he looked to anyone that watched him regularly?

Mews really caught my attention in camp, has an interesting aggressive style. Also wasn't afraid to mix it up a lil bit.

I would like to give Kerins a look. 18 goals / 29 points in 28 games is pretty damn good as a 2nd year AHLer. He is T-3rd points in that league.

I’m going to the game tonight. I’ll try and watch kuznetsov and grushnikov. I have watched them in separate years at the young stars tourney. Two years ago I thought Kuznetsov was our best defenseman at the tourney. This year grushnikov was very noticeable due to his physical play.

Curious to see how they are doing now that they are pros.

Found it interesting, listening to the broadcast yesterday.

Fun fact, look at the forward prospects, notice something,

Nearly all of them shoot left.

Clearly number 1 objective is an right handed center.

I have always been a supporter of Kuznetsov, as I have always valued the stay at home defensemen. But IMO, his progression has slowed this year, and I think Grushnikov and Solovyov (24 so not mentioned) are ahead of him. As are other over 23ers, Bahl and Pachal, so he is getting pretty far down the depth charts.

Having said all that, if I had added one more name to my post, it would have been Kuznetsov.

Are either of Mews/Parekh eligible to play AHL next season?

Crazy to me that Morin is only mentioned once in this thread so far. I really like the cut of that kid's jib; he has the talent and the mindset to be a solid influence on the ice and off it.

I agree - I like him too.

To be clear, my post was in reference to Scorpion's tweet which he called his 23 and under power rankings. In other words, who's hot?

So I also did my list as a power rankings. And regarding Morin (and Kuznetsov, for that matter), he is not having a super year so far, and his progression has been slow so far:

D-yr: 72 pts, 1.075 PPG
D+1: 49 pts, 0.845 PPG
D+2: 29 pts, 1.000 PPG

Points aren't everything, but he is an offensive defenseman. So, for power rankings, he has to be pushed down the list. However, as a prospect, I still really like him and I think there is a good chance that we have a player there.

It only took a few videos after he was drafted to see quite plainly that I was wrong, and so were the pundits. He skates just fine, and is a good player in his own right. He's a big power-forward who uses his size to drive the net, work his way inside and to win pucks. Best of all, he has an NHL-caliber shot, and according to his coach at UMass, he has an enormous drive to improve as a player in order to make the NHL. Stylistically, and stylistically only, he reminds me a poor man's Draisaitl- a very poor man's Draisaitl. I think he could make an excellent top-6 finisher if he continues on his current path.
Suniev has improved his skating significantly from his freshman to sophomore season. Here is a video exhibiting Suniev's straight line speed. The BU defender that he blows by is Gavin McCarthy, who is a Sabres pick, and known for his great skating ability. McCarthy and Suniev had great battles throughout that game. It was very physical and showed Suniev's power game. He can also take a hit as McCarthy gave as well as received. Anyone with NESN or ESPN+ should checkout that game in the archive if they want to see Suniev.

Got ya.

I thought I heard at some point he was rebounding from a nagging injury, or was that someone else?

Gilbertson with a really good article on Kerins' success this season.
https://calgaryherald.com/sports/hoc...ct-rory-kerins

https://twitter.com/user/status/1870142653490204972

Quote:
“I do believe, in my heart, that his training this summer took a different level,” said Ray Edwards, the Flames director of player development. “Whether that’s changing different things or him having a more focused mindset or just him understanding that this is a big year for him, he did the work and you can see it.

“You can see it in his analytics, too. He’s hanging onto pucks longer. He can stay out there longer. He can be in battles longer. He can win more battles because he’s stronger, he’s faster. And his ability to play harder in the last 20 seconds of a shift, that is allowing him to create offence in that 20- to 50-second range, where last year I would argue that he was good for 15 or 20 seconds and after that, it was tough.
Quote:
“You know, that would be one of my do-overs,” Conroy said with a sigh. “He has a confidence in him and he was in that third group and he was like, ‘I’m gonna show you guys.’ And I give him credit, he’s done it. That’s what you want guys to do, so I’m happy for him.”

“He may have got the short end of the stick in training camp, but he stuck it to us after,” Edwards praised. “He said, ‘Oh, you guys don’t think I’m ready for that? Well, here you go.’ And good for him for doing that.”
Quote:
“When you watch him, he is so smart,” Conroy said of Kerins. “He knows how to draw guys to him and dish pucks. He has great touch on his passes. He has a real good shot, can get it off in traffic, and he goes to the right areas.

“He just sees the game really well and with his hockey sense, it’s fun to watch.”

A pro scout for another NHL organization told Postmedia that he also has noticed this season an uptick in Kerins’ competitiveness on pucks and in his one-on-one battles.

“The skill was always there,” the scout said. “But he is much more engaged.”
Quote:
“With Rory, his main concern was back then was just building strength and speed and a little bit of technique,” Fujita explained. “Over the years, we’ve kind of evolved the structure of the lessons with him. We started with the basics and added on as we went along. And then this past summer, we really started adding in tactical skating skills, so taking the technique, the movement pattern and the added strength and power and implementing that all together into game-like scenarios, but skating-based.

“Rory is a guy that really epitomizes the building the foundation and then adding on to it as we went. I knew this was going to be a journey with Rory and it did take time.”

Is Fujita the MVP of the Flames training staff or what?

She seems like a miracle worker.
