Dodge and Nissan really hurt themselves by being by far the least reliable American and Japanese auto manufacturers, respectively.
Hyundai/Kia significantly improving the quality of their vehicles has probably hurt them more than anything.
The loss of competition sucks, but I hope and expect others to fill in their place.
Honestly, though, they weren't even competition and added nothing to the table. Nissan and Dodge have just been for car-buying NPCs for years. Those buyers will just blink twice at the shuttered doors and then wander over to Hyundai or Ford without a second thought. The world loses nothing.
I would have said it'd be a bummer to lose the Jeep Wrangler as I'm a sucker for a purpose-built vehicle, but I'd take a Bronco over a Wrangler any day, so there's literally nothing lost when those companies leave the market.

I wonder if that's it. Higher pressures in the rear as a way to retain more of the RWD characteristics that most BMW drivers expect.
Hmm... it might be. But I don't think RWD and AWD is totally it. Trim packages and the tire size the vehicle came with seemed to affect the recommended amounts too.
Mine is a 535i xDrive. Someone pulled info from the manual that showed options from 17"-20" tires for the 535i and 535d. I've never seen so many possible variations for a vehicle before. https://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1856609
I ended up poking around a G80/G82 discussion and they too seemed to report quite a varied amount of recommended tire pressures in their manuals/door.
Is this specifically a BMW thing? Or do other sports car manufacturers also vary in the tire pressure like this?
I don't know. Losing some Iconic cars like the Challenger, GTR the Z and the Charger is a pretty change in automotive history. The GTR is arguably the greatest Japanese sports car ever made.
I hate that stupid ppl ran these brands into the ground. They should have leaned into what made them great until they died. Instead they're fading off with a whimper.
Whimper being the Hornet and the CVT transmission respectively.

So where are we looking for used cars (local ones) these days?
Kijiji Autos, Facebook Marketplace and maybe AutoTrader. Is that it?
I let a sweet car slip through my fingers last week. I'm normally fast to pull the trigger when I see something I like and am ready to go, but I was screwing around sorting out winter storage first since, I guess, I'm more mature and patient or something now.
Anyway, winter storage sorted (I'm buying a sea can), but the car sold that same day. Oh well, it'll have to be my benchmark to find something better.

Seacan
How many cars will you be illegally shipping to Asia?

Depends what you're looking for.
- I found my current two cars on AutoTrader, just happened to strike at the right moment and landed pretty stupid good deals on both.
-My RRS was a stupid good deal and I found that on Kijiji of all places. Just happened to find a guy who was so fatigued with all the time-wasting idiots and stupid kids who just wanted to rev the engine that I ended up getting an extra $1,200 bucks off his asking price, which ended up being the cheapest in the country at the time I bought it.
I think you're gonna find older specialty stuff better with FB Marketplace and Kijiji for both private and dealer lots, whereas stuff you can buy from a franchised dealership or high-end used dealer is best sourced from AutoTrader. YMMV, but having a variety of sources is ideal.

This might belong in the gear-grinder thread, but I’m also genuinely curious. How often do people get flat tires? I got one tonight…again. I’m sure I must have run over a screw or something. But it feels like I’ve had a lot of flat tires in my life.
And, this is the first vehicle I’ve had with no spare. Instead it has a tire sealant and compressor kit. Seems to have worked, but I guess I’ll see if I get home.
The day of our first big snowfall, where everyone was implored to stay home while I was out exerting dominance as king of the road, it turned out I'd gotten a screw in my rear, left hand tyre a day prior. Nail was biased to the middle-outer tread, so it was a pretty simple fix for my shop. It's the first time I've had to have one patched.
Last time I had a flat, there was a sidewall defect and I kept losing air, ended up having the whole thing replaced. That was 2017.
Have you had a bunch of new roofs done on your street? Maybe keep an eye out if someone’s been doing construction in your alley? Those were the two I always considered when we lived in the city. So many people are careless with their building supplies, especially near alleys.
We had a wild run of flats at our office for about a year. I have no idea what happened, but it seemed like a different employee each day would get a flat caused by a nail or screw. It got so bad, security/facilities started keeping track, but then covid hit and nobody drove for 2 years…haha. I think I ended up with two flats during that time frame; what a pain in the ass.

IMO it's a good thing as the market is saturated. Nissan and Chrysler going away doesn't remove choice. It simply saves people from themselves as now they will have to buy a better vehicle. Jeep has value and won't go away but nobody is going to miss Chrysler, Nissan, or Jaguar for that matter (outside of a few people in this thread and about a hundred other people on the planet).

Huh - funny you mention this. Just had one 2 weeks ago. I'm pretty sure it came from driving through the alley by a demolition site. So awesome to have an unplanned expenditure of $1,400 for a new set of tires. Was considered "unrepairable" by KalTire, which is a gear grinder of my own.....
Winter tires seem to be more prone to picking up nails. I seem to get one every 3/4 years, but it's directly linked to construction sites. I used to walk the alley behind my house when there was an active construction site behind me and it was shocking how many nails and bolts I'd pickup every couple of weeks. Like a handful every time - I swear the trades would sweep off flat deck trailers right into the alley.

Negative. I feel like you'll all go out and compete with me on what I'm after.
I will say it's super basic in context of this thread, so don't get excited lol. Just a fun summer car is the plan. Now's until end of February is the best time to buy rwd cars. Desperate sellers and few buyers.
