I don't know if I agree with that. He got to play his 1000th in a Flames jersey.

As much as he loves this city and organization - he's still a fiery competitor that wants to win and play meaningful hockey. If Calgary falls out of it, I don't think it would be all that difficult to get him to waive. Much easier than Kadri.

Could also see Backlund being a guy thats open to 1 year deals with the flames until he retires.
Would leave flexibility to chase a cup at the deadline with contenders

I wonder about how much room Conroy has from the owners to continue moving guys out. Veterans demanding retirement contracts are an easy sell to the owner. Moving guys like Toffoli and Lindholm demanding huge amounts of money for what is going to almost certainly be rapidly decreasing levels of play is an easy sell to the owners.

So far, he's essentially managed to sneak a mini rebuild under the owners noses, who may not be on board with any kind of rebuild.

Now that the Flames are potentially competitive, with some big contracts already locked in, the owners may be pushing Conroy to be more competitive.

The obvious right choice would be to move Backlund, Coleman, and potentially Weegar and/or Andersson out for futures. Will the owners allow that?

Another trade idea:

Trade Rasmus Andersson to Florida for Niko Mikkola, Gracyn Sawchyn and 1st round pick 2026.

Defence pairs after trade: ** call up
Weegar/Miromanov
Mikkola/Brzustewicz**
Bahl/Pachal

Sawchyn is good but that seems like a low return based on the rumored value of Andersson

We really don't need anymore wingers. But the idea is kind of nice.

I do believe dissentower was closer to this than I am however so I’d trust what he’s heard over myself.

I feel like given the right circumstance he “might” accept a trade but he would have full control of what that looks like. Too many moving parts for him, and he’s won his cup so he’s been pretty vocal now about wanting to play for a team/city that fits his families needs more than his own desire to chase a cup. Hence why he moved his immediate family all out here.

Never say never, but I’d wager his preference is to stay put.

i have so much respect for that!

The Leafs need their bottom 6 to chip in. No points in 5 games. Wasn't even a PPG in the AHL, either.

The Oilers have solved their blueline woes by claiming Alec Regula off waivers from the Bruins.

Right shot, right wing, born in Calgary, plays for team SWE. He did great with CBJ last year, I even thought he'd be a savvy pickup in the off-season.

That said, we have too many players that play the wing. Duehr and Pelletier both look good with the big club, Lomberg is also about to come back. Then a guy like Stromgren is tearing it up in the AHL.

I wasn't saying Calgary should pick him up. I was more hoping for some William traction.

I am quite certain the owners know what is happening, and nothing is being "snuck under their noses". They ain't stupid...

Workshopping Another trade idea (hopefully more fair this time):

Trade Rasmus Andersson to St. Louis for Colton Parayko, Dalibor Dvorsky, conditional 1st round pick 2025, and conditional 4th round pick 2026

Conditions: if St. Louis Blues miss the 2024-25 NHL playoffs they will keep the 2025 1st round pick but will give up their 2026 1st round pick instead; if St. Louis Blues makes the 2024-25 NHL playoffs, the 2026 4th round pick will turn to 2026 3rd round pick instead.

Rationale: St. Louis Blues gets a younger upgrade in defence with Rasmus as well as salary cap relief (short-term). Calgary compensates for the longer more expensive contract of Colton Parayko by getting St. Louis's best forward prospect in Dvorsky as well as another 1st round pick.

Defence pairs after trade:
Weegar/Miromanov
Bahl/Parayko
Bean/Pachal

This is more fair?!

What was your last one? Thomas, Kyrou, Parayko and two firsts? Good lord.
