Shane Wright's popping off now. He's going nowhere.

Cozens as a buy low opportunity makes sense to me but I honestly have a hard time seeing teams lining up to pay a premium for him.

47 points in 79 games last year

13 points in 28 games this year

Making $7.1M dollars....and they've been so down on his play at center this year they moved him to the wing a couple times this year even though they are desperate for centers.

It's not a good value contract when you consider it's 60 points in his last 107 games now (46 point per 82 game pace).

I have a hard time seeing him getting much more than a mid-late first round pick in return, and even that might be a stretch with the contract considered.

To put it somewhat into perspective Mangipane when he signed his contract was 6.6% of the cap. Both signed after scoring 30 goals. Mangipane regressed to a 40 point player. I think the ceiling is higher for Conzens. If he can get back to 60ish points, that 7M is probably the new bar for 60 point players. He has the potential to exceed that in the right situation.
Well suggesting trading our best trade chip for a player on with a terrible contract is not buying low. He is showing significant regression, and he is not a play driving center you want.

Add that bad contract with Huberdeau and Kadri and now a rebuilding team suddenly has 3, you are going down the path of Nashville. Cap space can eat up fairly quickly. We will also have Wolf, Coronato, and Zary to sign.

Re: Buffalo wanting a player who can play centre back. Doesn’t necessarily mean a natural centre.

Pospisil fits.

Cozens got off to a rough start but he does have 6 points in his last 8 games.

Not quite the same thing imo. Not franchise as in most important player, but definitely franchise as in face of the.

Longest-tenured Lightning player, almost 1100 games with the franchise, 555 goals, 582 assists, 1137 points, 128 career playoffs games with 50 goals and 51 assists. All time leader in goals and points, OT goals, GWG, and multi-point games. Was coming off 3 straight seasons of better than a PPG, including 2 40 goal seasons.

Giordano was coming off seasons of 31 points in 60 games, and 26 points in 56 games.

Does you think teams would feel the same way if Kuzmenko has 6 points in games so let’s make a good offer ? Likely not.

I know Cozens has a longer leash being younger but a 8 game sample size isn’t enough. We have a lot more to look at.

No, but Cozens is younger, and NHL GMs seem to have a weakness for former high picks, thinking maybe they just need a change of scenery. And given the number of guys who have improved after leaving Buffalo (Reinhart, Eichel, O'Reilly, Montour, etc) they may very well be right.

Personally I think it really depends on what version of Cozens you end up getting, and you’ll have to gamble.

He could turn into a solid 1B for a long time
Or he continues on this downward trajectory and becomes the bottom 6 forward you can’t afford to be paying 7M.

I think there’s definitely a chance he blossoms elsewhere, there’s just something really toxic in Buffalo and guys seemingly improve overnight when they get away from there.

I think if the cost stays low’ish the Flames should definitely take a shot.
I’d be willing to part with the likes of Porier/Pelletier/Pospisil but is that enough to get it done? Would you give up a first? Hard to say, not a lot can fit the contract now without a significant contract going back.

Toronto doesn’t have the cap but Brads always trying to lowball.

Well, Gio was a defenceman after all - they don't rack up the same points with a couple rare exceptions. And he was the current games played leader (3rd in franchise history), captain of the team, Norris trophy winner just two years prior, Messier award winner the year before. If he wasn't the face of the Flames the only candidate was Gaudreau, and he was coming off of seasons of 58 points in 70 games and 49 points in 56 games.

I think when they let Stamkos go he'd been supplanted by other players as the "face".

Stamkos 5 on 5 play was going downhill fast. I think 50% of his points came on the PP.

Tampa still had decent players that can win. They made the right call.

Nashville didn’t seem to do any research they saw big names and threw money at them. I said during the offseason when they got called a cup contender they are about to find out winning free agency usually isn’t a good thing.

THey won their first cup pretty much without him so that maybe gave them confidence.

Can we not just say, as a blanket statement, that “Brad Treliving is “in” on everything”? Eyeroll. The guy is such a tire kicking lowballer. Like ya I’m sure he knows everyone who’s available but he’s probably offering Buffalo something like a 7th round pick. So lame. He’s like that guy on Kijiji we all know “I’ll give ya $5 for that $100 item”.

As for Calgary, I’d recommend staying away. We’re like 3 months into this rebuild and our fans need to get their head around being way way way way more patient. Not every available player makes sense particularly with cap hits that have poor value.

After starting the season with 11 points in 11 games, Andersson has just 4 in his last 18 (including tonight so far), while also starting to struggle defensively. Hopefully for his trade value, he can rebound.

Yikes!

Conversely, Weegar has 11 points in his last 15, after 5 in his his first 13.
