He’s 19. Second youngest player in the NHL.
Way too early to say whether he is a generational player, or not. That’s a discussion to be had well down the road, like, a decade from now.

Also just as a comparison to Sid or McDavid he's nowhere near their impact right out of the gates. Not saying Bedard isn't going to be a very good player but he's not in the same zip code with those two guys.

Sophomore slumps are real. Impact out of the gates doesn't necessarily correlate to long term potential. Way too early to declare anything regarding Bedard. Why are fans so eager to dump on good young players during their developmental years?

Nathan MacKinnon had similar hype and in his first 4 seasons had averaged well under a point per game with only 1 season over 60pts and has now had 8 consecutive seasons of over a ppg since. His hype was huge leading up to the draft as well.

Jack Hughes was a bust. Pretty sure if you go back only a year ago Alexis Lafrenière could have been had for next to nothing.
Tim Stutzle went from 90 points to seventy and is now on pace for over 100.
These snapshots in time evaluations people like to make are, generally, worthless.

Correct.
Bedard is on a 71 point pace over his career so far, with basically zero help from any established line mates.
Most of his points are ones in which he is the driver of the goal. Few cheap assists.
He is still 19 until next summer.

Bedard is clearly a bust.
I think Connie can get for a 3rd. Just take a flyer on him.
Backlund can teach him on to win Faceoffs.

These young kids are just that - kids. Development isn't always a nice linear curve, it usually takes years for them to develop into their potential. They go from junior levels competing mostly against similarly aged players into the top league in the world against fully developed and trained pro players - men who have been training at the highest level for years in most cases.
Of course there will be ups and downs. Patience is often key with their development as they don't all simply light it up and continue an upward trajectory.

Toews won how many Stanley Cups?
|
As I said, they picked high in 2019, had a high pick in 2020 that they traded for Jones, then they made the POs. Then they started again.
Toews won a cup. With and elite player in Kane, a top defender in Keith and a really good supporting cast with strong goaltending. I never said Bédard wasn’t good. He might not turn out to be a generational player like people predicted. He certainly hasn’t gotten off to the start of a Sid, McDavid, or even a Malkin or Makar.
They just made their highest pick from tanking (they normally would have picked 5th or so in Bedards year). We’ll see what happens. But so far their run of picks isn’t like Pittsburghs.

Sure. But maybe he was overhyped. The media wants a generational player. MacKinnon had hype he grew into. RNH had huge hype. So did Yakupov. But usually these generational players - Gretzky, Sid, McDavid, Makar, Orr - they hit the ground running and while they have a learning curve it just starts at a way higher level and they don’t look back. MacKinnon is an exception.
If Bédard turns into Eichel or Toews that’s just fine. But I think they were expecting McDavid II

Jarome Iginla had 13 goals in his second season and he really sucked that year (I know I was a season ticket holder). It worked out for him.

Only the really hopeful were expecting McDavid. If he turns into Eichel - Stanley Cup and Hart candidate so far this year - then they'll be thrilled.

Totally agree. The NHL is also not a development league. It’s a far steeper, more difficult curve than taking the CHL/AHL/NCAA/International route, which is why such a tiny number of players are even able to skip those routes entirely, and why even less are able to keep their heads consistently above water when they do.
The fact that a guy like Bedard is producing at a 71 point pace over 82 games less than 6 months after his 19th birthday is a credit to his talent, not an indictment.

Controversial take, but if you gave me a choice between Bedard or Celebrini- I take Celebrini every day of the week. I think he'll have the better NHL career.
Nothing against Bedard, he's going to be just fine.

From what I have heard the Leafs are not looking at a reunion with Kadri. Contract is too long and salary doesn't fit their cap situation, both now and going ahead.

I doubt they commit to any longterm money until they know what Mcdavid is doing. No point in tying up cap needed and then he goes to UFA

100% would rather keep Kadri over 'Kampf and a 5th', just terrible in value for us. With an increasing cap, Kadri's salary becomes less of a problem anyways. He only has four years left after this year, he's still generally productive, and he's still an important part of our top six. Also, that rumoured Toronto offer is such a classic Treliving offer; #### off with that nonsense, Tre.

LeBrun on the Canes' goaltending:
Quote:
The signing of veteran goalie Dustin Tokarski on Monday doesn’t take the Carolina Hurricanes out of the goalie market.
My understanding is that the Canes intend to still keep on kicking tires on the goalie market, as they have for weeks now.
With Pyotr Kochetkov back, and with the Tokarski signing, there’s not as much urgency for further action, but there are still two scenarios in which I could see Carolina adding in net:
• The Canes might act at any time if if a goalie becomes available who would slot ahead of Spencer Martin and Tokarski.
• Closer to March 7, they’ll have to see where Frederik Andersen is at in terms of his game and return from a knee procedure. He’s a pending unrestricted free agent, and there could be an opportunity and a scenario where the Canes feel there’s an upgrade over Andersen behind Kochetkov.
