My thoughts exactly. Maybe he has something in his contract? Like, No being mean to me or I’ll call my dad, clause.

He’s just so ineffective at everything that it makes him completely useless. Huberdeau isn’t putting up the points, which he is paid to do, but also fails to adapt into a useful role player. His +/- is at -7 which also demonstrates that he’s unable to be a defensively responsible player in a shifted role. You would think that with his reputation of being an “elite” passer that he could at least put up some points on the PP.

As a player he doesn’t score, put up assists, check, or fight. He was completely one dimensional before coming to the Flames and he has lost that capability since he arrived. At this point he should be in the press box for a few games or have a very short leash. They have basically tried everything with him and he continues to be ineffective.

Gotta separate the person from the hockey player.

Nice guy. Dreadful hockey player.

Probably the worst or second worst contract in the NHL. I'd rather have Nurse. Never imagined I would type those words.

It's not baffling that they are have trouble scoring goals. What is baffling is the fact they roll out the same #### every game over and over and over. Then I get to hear Huska give the same monotone excuse every night. Change it up.

Tried everything except put him in the press box. I said this year ago also, anything to light up his ass. There is nothing to lose at this point. I still can't believe people were glamouring his effort at the start of the year, like it's some kind of an achievement.

When’s the last time a big money vet watched from the press box? It just doesn’t happen for a multitude of reasons

I'd be tempted to put him on waivers when the cap jumps up this off season. Maybe there is some team that thinks they can be the Huberdeau whisperer. Long shot I know.

Edit, never mind. I see he has a full NMC until 2029.

He is still the second highest scoring forward on the roster and he is going to be on the roster for the remainder of his contract. What is the benefit of sending him to the press box outside of spite? Everybody knows he is playing poorly but so are the rest of the forwards. Are they going to send Huberdeau and Kadri to the press box to send a message that is known? They are still people that need to be managed.

If some team wants him for nothing, and Hubby will waive, he's theirs.

But because he has 6+ years left, he doesn't have positive value even if Calgary retained half his cap hit. No one wants a 40 point forward at $5.25M if he needs premium ice time and PP1 time just to get to 40 points.

I get many would say that at $5.25M a 50 point forward has value, and that's true if he's getting third line minutes and maybe PP2. But when your "best" forward is getting 40 points, you'll be one of the lowest scoring teams in the league.

But until they have some younger players with substantial potential ready to take his place, you may as well keep running him out there.

I have come to accept this reality. I dislike his play immensely and don't want him on the team but what are they going to do
...

Worst case he maintains or loses value (can't lose much). Play him and he could regain value at current play even (reduced contract lengh). Sunk cost.

Even at 50% retention, Huberdeau has negative value. The only possible trade is taking back a similar contract of which there are none currently.

Shelter him ... put him in offensive situations only and bench him if he doesn't score to drive performance... I might try that? Paying him regardless

Yes, yes...but can we bribe an equipment guy to put itching powder in his equipment?

He is being sheltered, and being put primarily in offensive situations.

Will huska bench him though? Primarily offensive yrs but still getting lots of ice time 10-12 min shelter max.

Further to this in deeper thoughts. Do we have players to push huberdeau at this point to implement this? Maybe huska feels he is outplayed others

He is being sheltered to the absolute max. It’s just not a very deep organization right now when it comes to NHL ready players, but this will become a bigger issue in a year or two.

Worst contract in the league? I’ve gotta think this must be the biggest fall off in recent memory.
