Flames managed to carry play against a pretty good even strength team.

Good write up, Bingo!

I think we are all impressed with Kirkland in the shootout. Crazy. It’s the same move, wonder why it’s so effective. Love it

Good day for the PP

Bad day for Miro, he was terribad in the third with two identical d zone turnovers, the last one leading to the tying goal.

earlier in the week when he scored, they asked him about it after the game and essentially (and yes he was partly joking but not entirely) he said he didn't want to say too much about it

its fascinating really- an average talent player, there is all the film in the world (not that shootout prescouting is a big part of team prep- I don't think??) yet he's got a cheat code- I can only imagine, though it looks like one move to me, that he is looking at something or has a few options in terms of timing or angle that he is leveraging to make it work?

a few comments on deployment, pairings etc

obviously this is the issue with small numbers- but interesting for example to see Pachal tops in the fancies, and his partner under water. Hanley I think took on a few PK or post PK shifts when Miromanov and Weegar were in the box, so may just be that, anyways interesting to see Hanley draw in regardless

the Coleman/Backlund thing is interesting. yes those 2 and Backlund/Frolik before them have been a coaches security blanket and the ultimate training ground for young players- but I see it a bit here- with Zary moving to center- he needs a 'Coleman' (and this team may only have one of those) to help with that for now and I don't mind it. the 4th line is what it is, and the Kadri line is sort of a misfit toy combo right now, so the other 2 lines (which each feature one of the security blanket guys and one of our prize youngsters) are going to be asked to do quite a bit

I believe his AHL shootout success rate is also really high. 65% or something

22/35 in the AHL, that's absurd.

Saw this synced up version of his 3 with the Flames on r/hockey:
