Yes I'm sure many questions will be raised before rubber stamping Lord Trump's nominee.

Experts say Trump's coalition shows 'great potential for a crackup'

Quote:
In particular, they note that Trump has made so many promises to so many constituencies of disaffected voters that trying to carry them out could wind up hurting the American economy.
Quote:
"He might try to carry out his promise of deporting millions of illegal immigrants, a project that could not just wreak havoc among families and in communities but also cause economic chaos," they write. "Or take tariffs... Unlike most Republican initiatives, tariffs, if successful, work by imposing short-term costs in prices in order to achieve long-term gains in jobs from otherwise endangered industries. It’s the short-term costs — another round of inflation, this time imposed by Mr. Trump — that might endanger the Republican coalition."
Quote:
"The final obstacle to a strong realignment is Mr. Trump himself, who is consumed with the quest for power and self-aggrandizement, and appears eager to seek revenge against his detractors," they write. "Many of his difficulties during his first term stemmed from his own misbehavior, and he continues to revel in division and divisiveness."

Judis and Teixeira point to what happened in the United Kingdom in 2019 when the Conservative Party believed that it had finally cracked Labour's electoral coalition, only to be thrown out handily just five years later.

All of this leads them to conclude that "Trump’s dream of a historic Republican realignment may not survive his second term."

I love America politics and their battles. Newsom and California are preparing to sue the Trump government already and they won't even be doing anything policy wise until January. Apparently during the last Trump term, California sued the feds on average every 12 days. And people complain here in Alberta about Smith picking fights with Ottawa.

The Constitution allows for temporary filling of federal offices without confirmation if the Senate is not in session.

Last week Trump said that the Senate should elect a majority leader that is willing to call recesses that would allow him to sidestep the confirmation process.

Not sure if Thune will be willing to do that, but nothing would surprise me.

I mean Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence???

With Trump in charge they might as well make a Department of Legal Sex Rapists.

I'm so looking forward to seeing California leading the fight against Trump and his redneck administration. I hope NY, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Colorado, Oregon and Washington stand behind them too.

...except Newsom's party does it to take steps in safeguarding their state against an unstable, corrupt fascist regime that has it out for them because they're primarily not Republicans. In Alberta, Marlaina's UCP IS the unstable, corrupt, fascist regime, and their lawsuits against the feds are just virtue signaling to rile up their base.

The goal is to break everything. This is finishing what Steve Bannon tried to start and guys like Mark Milley and John Kelly stood in the way to prevent.

The Republic fell in 2016, we're just now seeing it fully come to fruition. And with Susan Collins saying she's deeply concerned about Matt "(Accused) Sex Trafficker" Gaetz as AG.. she'll still probably vote for him. Feckless idiot.

Immigration and environmental policies, gun control, etc.

Just found out Texas sued the Obama administration 48 times in 8 years, so California certainly set the record.

I'm not sure why Trump's considering this when the GOP controls the Senate, unless he's worried the Senate won't confirm his nominees, which is concerning lol. Also, apparently, recess appointments are fairly common? Clinton had over 100, Obama 30ish and GWB with over 170 LOL.

I wonder if we can wager on this. I’d put money down on Trump will leave office by the end of January 2029
