Prime made Calgary/the Flames feel special, as it should be. You shouldn’t feel like you’re watching an Edmonton broadcast when the Flames are the home team.

Man it felt weird to have a broadcast crew that talked about the teams on the ice, instead of a couple s***heels spanking to their favorite scumbags on a seperate monitor in the corner of the broadcast booth.

I'm not sure how to take this. Feels good.
The only thing that sucks is that this is the only Flames home game on Prime this season.

The broadcast was fantastic. So much better than anything from Sportsnet. Reminded me a lot of what you get from NFL broadcasts. I’ve watch a few of these Amazon games this year and they have all been great.

Obviously the key ingredient is that it’s not Sportsnet running it… but I also see the advantage Amazon has where they get to prep all week for one game. You could tell the broadcasters had been watching both teams closely leading up to it and had great insight into how they had played and specific moments from previous games. You don’t see that in any hockey night in Canada broadcast of a flames game. They basically just rely on Hrudey to say something specific about the flames while the rest of them basically treat it like they haven’t watched the flames play since the last time they played on HNIC. I’ve seen them post lines in the past where Coleman is playing center and Backlund is playing wing.

Amazon is doing a simple broadcast with real effort and focus. There is very little cringe moments like you see with HNIC (eg. when they bring out the net and sticks to try to “coach” the viewers). There are so many moments like that and awful anecdotes from Hrudey and Ron that it’s unwatchable at times.

Sure there is. The Oilers came within one game of winning the Stanley Cup in 2006, and then missed the playoffs for 10 straight years.

That there, my friend, is a bridesmaid's hangover. I hope they have another.

That's more like doing it with a chainsaw.

Anybody here in US knew you were in for a treat with Prime broadcasts.
The quality of their Thursday night football is outstanding and I'm very glad to see they brought the same level of professional broadcast quality to their hockey broadcasts.
Great game, great win, great broadcast
Great team, actually.

Once again the rebuilding Flames beat a win now team with $20M more payroll. Hard not to cheer for these underdogs. The other 2 teams with similar payrolls sit 29th and 30th while Calgary is in 11th.

The first shutout for Wolf will be glorious and Zary is going to get a hat trick sometime soon.

Carolina missed he playoffs the next year as well. It was the first (maybe only???) time hat has ever happened.

Presumably the Oilers have a banner for that somewhere.
