It appears the majority of Americans are now MAGA, and want cronyism, isolationism, and an erosion of democratic rights.

If that's what they want, they got it. I'll be curious to see how their lives improve over the next four years.

Traditional politics is dead. We are now in the "I can do no wrong" cesspool of toxic politics and toxic individuality underpinned with big money and misinformation from abroad.

If I may suggest, vote with your wallet going forward. There may be an ultra right-wing MAGA dictator in the White House, but you can tell corporations where to shove it every day of your life, no election needed. And they don't like you taking your dollars and attention away from them.

In the meantime, Americans can enjoy watching what was once fringe elements of society now boldy take the country for their own. Racists, mysoginists, xenophobes, and general hate will get their higher profile and you need to endure it.

Analysis-Trump victory to reverberate through global economy

Quote:
"Trump's fiscal pledges are seriously troublesome – for the U.S. economy and for global financial markets – as they promise to vastly expand an already excessive deficit at the same time as he threatens to undermine key institutions," Erik Nielsen, UniCredit's Group Chief Economics Advisor, said.

"One must conclude that Trump poses a serious – and so far vastly under-appreciated - threat to the U.S. Treasury market and thereby to global financial stability," Nielsen said.
Quote:
Import duties, including a 10% universal tariff on imports from all foreign countries and a 60% tariff on imports from China, are a key plank of Trump's policies and likely to have the biggest global impact.

Tariffs inhibit global trade, lower growth for exporters, and weigh on public finances for all parties involved. They are likely to raise inflation in the United States, forcing the U.S. Federal Reserve to act with tighter monetary policy.

The International Monetary Fund has already characterised global growth as weak, with most nations producing "feeble" expansion. A further hit to global trade is likely to present a downside risk to its 3.2% GDP growth projection for next year.

Firms mostly pass import costs onto the customer, so tariffs are likely to be inflationary for U.S. buyers, forcing the Fed to keep interest rates high for longer or to even reverse course and hike borrowing costs once again.

This will be even more likely if Trump keeps his spending and tax pledges, which could increase the U.S. debt by $7.75 trillion through 2035, according to the non-partisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.

"Higher inflation would weigh on domestic demand, especially as it would call for a restrictive monetary policy response, with a negative impact on growth," Anis Bensaidani at BNP Paribas said.

Looks like Florida, Nebraska and South Dakota rejected referendums on expanding abortion rights. Florida votes fell short of the 60% threshold needed to pass.

I think the world is just far too complex for the average American voter to understand. You can see it in the interviews with Trumpers. Simple solutions sell, but don't actually work. This is just a continuation of the reality that rising tides will not lift all boats, that global resources are strained and as they redistribute for those making $1 a day to $10 a day and more means there is less for us. That's just how reality works. The wealthy and uber-wealthy will consolidate even more wealth, so there is less on that end as well. None of Trumps promises will fix this, but simple sells to simpletons.

Unfortunately the collataral damage in many areas of life is going to suck, hard.

Trump is going to axe the tax, stop the crime, fix the budget and build the homes. I say give him a chance. What is the worst that can happen?

I'm not sure that's the case. Biden received over 81 million votes in 2020, as of right now AP is reporting just over 66 million votes for Kamala.

They failed to energize their base and get the vote out. They didn't turn MAGA, they just didn't turn out.

The is every US election in the last 20 years I think.

People in the US don't change how they vote, it's all about how you get your base to vote.Republicans especially generally have a more consistent vote.

17M fewer people voted, 15M fewer voted Democrat.

In the end and I think it's similar to 2016, the Democrats just did a poor job of getting people out to vote.

Voter apathy is a vote for MAGA in a day and age of 50/50 polling.

Voting for third parties is a vote for MAGA knowing full well your candidate will not win, and will just torpedo any chances of a better alternative.

This problem is also alive and well in Canada. Not voting is a stunning admission of ignorance, defeat, and egotistical nonsense.

The hubris of voters to think otherwise is stunning.

What a terrifying result to wake up to. The concept of living under Christian Nationalist rule has always been the darkest of timelines, but that now seems to be the path we Americans are on. I have never experienced the sense of dread I feel at this moment. Any faith I had left in the people of the United States is gone. That shining light on the hill has officially been snuffed out.

I'm sure there are considerably worse outcomes than anything that impacts a message board based in Canada.

Trump at 78 is 4 years older than the average age of death for a man in the USA.
