Weird amount of focus on Wolf, I’d say. The players in front of him are playing like a bottom-3 team.
Yeah, he’s not stealing the game…but there’s 20 other players on the ice who have been atrocious.

See if you can get late picks or some sort of potential talent,in return. Of course they will have to eat salary.
Embarrassing player leadership from many of the supposed high end veteran talent.
Exceptions being Backlund, Weegar, and Andersson.

Do you mean Kadri and Huberdeau? Any retention on them would cripple us 2-3 years in.
No one is trading any talent. Maybe a mid round pick at 50%.

It's a bad game but it also probably looks worse than it is because they aren't getting any saves.

Blaming Wolf as the reason for this pathetic effort is a bit much. Lazy, clueless boring hockey ain't winning anything.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re close to a bottom 5 team based on how last year finished and the players we brought in.

Which save did you want him to make? If he made those saves which floater from the point from us did you think would go in?
The shot differential isn’t telling the story.

I fully expect us to be just that.
The Flames have the 3rd lowest payroll in the league, and $10.5M of what they have spent goes to the player formerly known as Jonathan Huberdeau. They’re built to be terrible.
If you look at tonight, I think the effort is strong enough but the execution is horrible. That’s what you get when you have a roster this bad.

It's a bit of everything so far:
Giveaway after giveaway
Wolf not great on 2 of the goals
Plays like Kuzy with a chance to shoot......gives it away instead
PP not doing much of anything
Bad call on the 5 on 3 goal
Just not a fantastic night. Hope they can clean it up and at least make a game out of it in the 3rd.

Conroy’s decisions, more than his words, tell you his plan. That’s what I think.

Expected goals are 2-1 for Utah right now on both Moneypuck and Natural Stat Trick.
Like I said none of the 4 goals are egregious or super soft goals against, but I do actually think 3 of the 4 are saveable even if it would have been a nice save.
2 goals against would have been expected.
3 goals against would have been acceptable.
4 goals against is a bad night.
Even if it's just the 3-1 goal...sure there is lots of traffic but he was deep in his net and didn't fight for space. To let that in 16 seconds after you cut the lead to 2-1 is a deflating goal against.

Honestly moving Hubrrdeau 50% retained for a mid round pick might be worth it just to get him out.
Beats the buyout.
I don’t buy that he will be a good presence to have around for a rebuild.

The nicest offensive play really was good pass from Kirkland to Mantha to spring him for the goal. When a 4th liner passes to a show me vet contract is the slickest play...it's the way it's been all season for the Flames offense.
Zero chemistry on offense and now it's piling on the lack of confidence as well.

Just have to hope for a new compliance buyout period when the new CBA kicks in.
I’ll dream of it.

Well we have this season and another until the CBA expires. I’d sit tight. Get our top 3 picks and see if we get a buyout.

The Flames aren’t good enough to win most games with mediocre goaltending. Bad defense will make it harder for the goalies to play well.

Yeah, they do have some guys that can put up points, but just aren't.
Kadri has been kind of a mess
Sharangovich still getting into game shape/speed
Huberdeau is Huberdeau.
Kuzmenko invisible a lot of the time.
Mantha shows up once in a while.
Zary is probably their best forward right now. He's noticeable and makes plays.

Honestly, this is not surprising. It's a team without a lot of talent, playing a lot of young guys, including in net. Pre-season posters expected a lottery team. It will be a lottery team.
