Things are going to even out.
I agree on the top 5, wouldn't say 6-10 is out of the question.

This year's team reminds me of the 04 land of misfit toys. Just a lunch bucket crew going to work every day. Good work ethic steals points. If they stay consistent, I say it more than likely they end up 11-16.
D corps hasn't even finished gelling yet. Sharkbait hasn't even entered the chat yet.

It's funny how much we let Frank Seravalli influence the narrative of this team. He just throws out an ambiguous statement about how he's been hearing Conroy is in the market for a right shot centre, and for whatever reason half our fanbase seems to think we're going to break the bank for a star C. What if the player we acquire is under 25 and we trade a pending UFA like Andersson for them? Does that really hurt the rebuild?

Serivallis rumor was already 6 months super late to the party. If any Flames fan worth their salt paid any attention, Conroy's been shopping for a top 9 center in their desired age bracket since the deadline.
Moving Andersson hurts the D corps in the short term as theyll need to get his replacement off the farm up to speed and it creates a bit of a logjam at FW with the incoming FW.
So in theory, it helps the Flames draft position if they move Razz for a C.

He’s publicly stated he wants a 23 and under C for the right deal.

I think that looking for a middle 6 stop gap centre is a good approach by the organization. Backlund is 35 and Kadri is 34, it's clear that the Flames want some kind of a succession plan in place. At the same time, next year's draft picks are probably 2–5 years away.
I still think that this centre can be one of Zary, or Pospisil. Hopefully, one or both exceed expectations when given the opportunity. Personally, I like Pospisil at centre this year, and liked Zary at centre to end last year.

Centers that helped teams win were acquired through a number of different avenues.
You can draft a MacKinnon (Avs) or trade for an ROR (Blues) or an Eichel (Knights).
McDavid is sort of irrelevant to the conversation cause he hasn't won anything. He's the dud.
Point is you never know which type of aquisition will be that guy. Don't limit it to just the draft, cause as we knows it's pretty hit or miss.

The guy I like is Barret Hayton. He's not RHS but he's always been the guy I've kind of singled out as a good target .

Some bad examples. ROR has been passed around the league and was a massive outlier.
Eichel was only traded because Buffalo is a complete joke of an organization.

They all played key roles in cup championships.
Bad examples - wtf?
You could argue the same perspective on Tkachuk as you did there for Eichel. Does it matter though? No... he won.

It's like devaluing your team and its assets as much as you can to push all your chips in before you know the amount of the pot. A high-risk strategy.

Are you suggesting that Eichel would have won the Stanley Cup in Buffalo if he had stayed?
He only won BECAUSE he was traded to Vegas. They needed him, but he needed them more.

No.
I’m saying he only becomes available because of Buffalo being an incompetent organization.
These type of players are usually not on the market.
Florida isn’t trading Barkov. Colorado isn’t trading MacKinnon. Tampa isn’t trading Point. La isn’t trading Kopitar. Boston isn’t trading Bergeron when he was playing.
The point is it’s very rare to get a player like that via trade.

It's also pretty rare to get a player like that with a top 5 draft pick . Only two guys of the guys you mentioned were top 5 picks and two of them were not even first round picks.

Which is why Conroy should do it if he can. People are taking an old story and acting like he is trying to get Tavares.
