This isn't all on Skinner in goal, I mean that first goal all on him and his terrible catching hand. But after the Oilers went down 1-0 they either quit or ran out of gas because they're old.
McDavid is a complete liability when he doesn't score.
But lets look at some key things. You're team is 2-3, you have high expectations, but you've been waxed by good teams and barely beat bad teams. But you have a chance to square your record and put your horrible start behind you.
You have a chance to show the world that you deserve all the hype. You can walk into Dallas with your superior "Talent" and establish yourself finally.
You know at home that your fanbase is pulling on their least tattered sweat pants, pulling on their best dress socks. Preparing a bowl your favorite onion and garlic chips and opening a fresh can of generic compliments beer. And to thank your fans. You lay a stinker.
You might have a shot advantage, but most of your shots are from the outside against one of the best goalies in the league, giving him a relatively easy afternoon.
You're team is struggling defensively, its time for you to listen to your captain and "DIG FRACKING IN"
Dallas blocks 22 shots, your team blocks (snicker) 10.
Yeah, but we're digging in, we need to work hard gash dang it.
Dallas outhits you 23 to 10, and your Captain leads the way with 3 because he's "DIGGING IN DAMNIT).
So if you aren't going to outhit or outblock in your own end, and you're just going to skate around. You're coach says "Be good with the puck, don't make any mistake if you're not going to DIG F##KING IN Boys".
Then you go out on the ice as a team and give the puck away 23 times to Dallas' 15.
Now in all seriousness, I said at the start of preseason that the Oilers were going to be the league's most disappointing team. I said it wasn't a prediction, it was a spoiler.
They were old, they had lost any semblance of defensive players. They had lost a lot of speed and aggressiveness on the forecheck and penalty killing.
Including the preseason, they've won 5 games and lost 9 games, and most of their losses have not been close.
This is a team in trouble, but trouble, and they can't mortgage more of the future that they don't have. They are in serious cap trouble. The team is playing like they've given up already. Draisaitl and McDavid look completely uninterested.
Its . .. Its Glorious.

McDavid makes a totally unforced giveaway, with a lazy backhand pass to no one. Bouchard has a chance to stop the break with a bad pass by Dallas but fumbles it, the Stars skate in freely barely touched, Ekholm looks lost and McDavid floats in from his own blue line, ever lifting a skate to get back hard.

Yup. Not one stride.
Dig in?

A pylon would have had 8 points in 5 games playing 20 mins a night on the McPP.

Doesn't even bother looking around, just watching the puck the whole time until it's in the back of his own net.

Just hoping it might deflect out so he can go the other way. The most overrated player in the league by a mile.

Lol, what an effort by McOverrated. Dude couldn't be more disinterested so far this year. By far one of the laziest players in the league when he doesn't have the puck.

Listening to the Oilers post game show, and I have heard Propaganda Minister Baghdad Bob Stauffer say, "This is not last year's team" five times in the first ten minutes.
No, Bob. It's not.

I have more years with Oiler hatred than most here have lived but the first half of that game was all Oilers, Oettinger was the difference.

I expect we are tied in years of hatred, meaning all years. Cheers to us old people.
And yeah, first 30 minutes Oettinger was the star, and then you knew what was coming after that.

Is this the perfect scenario? Exposing how bad the oilers are, no future draft picks or prospects, drai locked up long term at a huge hit, McDavid not signed… this potentially is the beginning of a glorious next decade.
Couldn’t happen to nicer guys. What a shame

It really does feel these days like the only way the Grease can score is when they outnumber their opponents. They are No Good, 5v5. They have to have a man or more advantage.
