Wasn’t super pretty, but that win is huge. Good to see Kamdem, Kobza, and Trafford get some minutes. They’ll hopefully be ready to start next week and for playoffs.

That first half was brutal, one of the worst halves of the season. The less said about it the better! Cavs seemed really confused with what HFX was doing. At the 20th minute they were passing around a piece of paper with notes from the bench and they didn’t really get any better.

Tommy changed the game with his subs. Trafford was able to provide some steel in the midfield and Wright occupied the centre backs which let Tobias run wild (and Musse on the other side). I like what Herdman is bringing on the left. He’s tenacious out there. Would’ve left him on personally.

Sad for Field. Seems his body just can’t keep up physically.

Montgomery. Wow! I knew he had that in him. Tonight I think proved something I’ve been thinking of; Montgomery - Klomp has a higher ceiling as a partnership than Kobza - Klomp. Montgomery allows Klomp to be way more aggressive. I think it also has bigger risk but especially this year as Kobza has been battling injuries that’s the partnership I want going into the playoffs. That might be a hot take but I’ve been thinking that for a while. And the more Montgomery plays the more in rhythm he gets and comfortable he looks.

I really believe if Montgomery plays like that he’s a top player in this league. He was physics, made good decisions on the ball, and covered basically all of defence as Klomp was so aggressive (too aggressive IMO at times, I thought he was actually pretty poor tonight). Player of the match by far, one of the Cavalry performances of the season. And that’s not even taking into account the goal. If Klomp leaves in the off-season I’m very ok with Montgomery leading the line next year.

4533 for Cavalry's final home game. Their attendance for the season is 4223, up 3% over 2023.

Every year there seems to be more reasons why people shouldn't show up (highest prices in the league, the CONCACAF debacle, shuttles being removed, etc) and eveyr year this club draws more and more people. Impressive.

Hope the next home match sees us lift the cup over Forge.

Really nice win, especially to get all 3 when you aren't at your best.

As an aside, I would love to see Halifax have some success, not at the expense of the Cavs of course. Their fans really support them, but have not been given much to cheer about. Really hope they can see some consistent playoff action in the near future.

Agree. I have a soft spot for Halifax. I love the city and the people there, and they support the team. They deserve something to cheer about.

For me it is Cavalry (of course), then Halifax, mostly indifference for everyone else, and FTF forever by a landslide.

The fact that Halifax continues to get the crowds they do despite a poor squad on the pitch speaks to the gold mine they have struck.

Having been to their stadium, it's as bare bones as you can get. Just bleachers with dirt / grass surrounding the bleachers, port a potties and a coupe food / beer stands. IMO it's about as poor a venue as Clarke in Edmonton. But it has a cool factor going for it that just sucks people in. And I went on probably the worst night I could have gone (a weeknight game with a 1 hour rain delay).

Looks like it's being reviewed:

If that's not suspension-worthy, I don't know what is.

For anyone who doesn't have OneSoccer or Fubo, here's a link to the YouTube stream for today's game against Valour.

Fubo.tv (my subscription for my CPL and EPL needs) lists the Ottawa-Vancouver match as that they'll carry (they only have a single OneSoccer feed). It would be neat to have a "Premier League Live" style of programme where they bounce between live games, inject highlights of goals as they happen, etc. but that would require a level of production that I'm not sure they have as the MediaPro-CPL relationship winds down.

I'm out and about during that time, and I often record on Fubo, avoid the score, and watch later. That doesn't seem possible today, so I'll have to juggle YouTube and notifications (and the wife, and listening while driving, and errands) a bit this afternoon.

Jimmy - how much is Fubo per year? I have OneSoccer, but have never subscribed to Fubo before. I'm assuming CPL content is just the OneSoccer feeds?

My price for the past 3 years (last renewal was in May) has been $150/year. But looking at their site, they're now saying $279/year, which is a massive increase. I'm not sure if I'm grandfathered/forgotten on an old offer, or if I'm in for a surprise/decision next May.

For CPL, they just have the "main" OneSoccer feed, just like what is on Telus - no overflow feeds or anything like that. I can only recall a couple of times where there was a conflict where Cavalry was not on the main channel due to another CPL match or national team match, but it has happened very occasionally. Frustrating when you've made a plan to watch, but rare enough that life goes on. At least today they've made it a big, simultaneous YouTube event.

The other selling point is that they also have every match for English Premier League and Serie A (multiple simultaneous feeds). Some of the EPL matches are even in 4K, which isn't super important, but a little bit of icing if you have the equipment to support it.

One thing that I really like is that they have a PVR function which lets you set a recording for a specific team, and it automatically records it for you. I'm a big timeshifter, and weekends are busy for me, so I am quite good at avoiding the score and sitting down to watch it on my terms.

I had OneSoccer before, but they were quite bad at getting matches up for on-demand viewing afterwards (days, not hours afterwards, if at all). That was a dealbreaker for me when presented with the Fubo PVR option. And I also found OneSoccer's app, site, etc. to be a bit clunky with little improvement for the couple of years that I had it.

At $150/month for Fubo, it is good value IMO. At $279... that's tough. If Norwich was in the Premier League again, it would make the decision easier. But I'm more of a team follower than a league follower, so my EPL viewing is definitely a lot more casual when Norwich isn't there (which is more often than not!).

And if you're thinking of jumping in, and CPL is a big factor in it, I'd wait until spring due to the uncertainty of the CPL broadcasting landscape. With MediaPro on the way out, there are a lot of unknowns about how many matches will be carried (hopefully all of them - we've been spoiled!), what platforms they will be available on, etc.

Nobody is going to grandfather in at their old price. On your renewal date, you'll be charged the new price.

I have Fubo and share the same thoughts as you. I remember reading an article on Fubo a year or two ago where the article stated its owners were losing lots of money and had no succinct business plan. Once I read that article, I knew a sizeable increase was inevitable.

Montgomery keeping Kobza on the bench again. Got to think Tommy is planning to start him in playoffs as well. Got to give him huge credit for battling back after dropping way out of favour.
