Didn't he score a lot of rush goals with the Wranglers last year?

He has a wicked release. That shot off the rush could be something special.

Those types of players come clutch in the playoffs, sometimes ending up with 10 goals and 2 assists but it contributes to winning.

What is Sharangovich's timeline?

I think that it is time to send Honzek down to the AHL to continue his development.

Scorpion on Afterburner the other day said his contract wouldn’t slide anymore, under 10 games or not.

But I agree he’d benefit from going down to the A soon. He’s seen the level, kind of plateaued at meh right now, waiver exempt… all adds up to letting him ripen in the minors.

He was 18 when he signed his contract last year, which means it can slide for 2 seasons if he doesn't play 10 NHL games. Last year was the first season. This is the second.

I can't think of anything that would have changed that.

Really curious if there were any Flames players injured in the 3rd period.

Blocked shots, etc.

At what point do we decide to push for a high 20-32 draft pick to give to the Habs rather than trying to get a pick under 10? I know there is still a long way to go but reading all of these stats for 4-0 teams making the playoffs makes me think we might have to rethink our strategy.

Great game from the team overall, a fun way to start my day.

Flames have a few tough games in a row after saturday's game in Seattle. Winning that one will be important to make sure this start doesn't see saw right back the other way.

Penguins could be thrown into that category, depends on how you see them. I'm not sure what that team is right now. On the bubble?

Carolina, Winnipeg, Vegas will be challenges. And HC Utah, if you buy into their start.

I would imagine that the Flames are going to give Honzek a chance to bounce back but if/when he does get sent back down to the Wranglers I think that the lines can be shuffled to give Coronato more ice and get Klapka back in until Sharangovich returns:

Zary/Pospisil Kadri Kuzmenko
Huberdeau Zary/Pospisil Mantha
Coleman Backlund Coronato
Lomberg Kirkland Klapka

Personally I prefer Zary at C and Pospisil on the wing with Kadri and Kuzmenko but with Zary and Huberdeau scoring at high rates there's a strong argument not to mess with what is working.

Then when Sharangovich returns you can bump Coronato back into the rotation with Klapka and fit Sharangovich wherever works best. Based on last year he did very well with Backlund and Coleman, but things looked fairly promising with Kadri and Kuzmenko in the preseason.

I'm really liking Kirkland in that fourth line role. He's made a real impact.

Might have been heavy on the analytics, but I don’t think a top 5 payroll team can be considered playing ‘moneyball’.

I too didn't know Matt had that type of speed. I thought his skating was supposed to be one of this weaker aspects?

I agree Coronato should get top 9 minutes and Honzek should head down.
Pospisil has proved strong as a Centre, no need to mess with it IMO.
I also agree that Kirkland has shown more than Rooney to date. Either Rooney or Hansley should head down to see if Kirkland can keep it up.

Don’t think his speed has been a big issue min the past - but he has improved it. He just has a different stance. More hunched over. There are a few players in the league that have a similar skating stance. Nick Robertson and Taylor Hall come to mind. Not slow skaters - just different. I remember Emile Poirier was similar.

Moneyball the way the A's did it was never going to be sustainable long term. Once the money flowed in with the analytics used the A's were going to go back to being at a financial disadvantage.

This and getting PED's out of baseball were really what broke the late 90's Yankee's paying top dollar for older players.

Someday NHL GM's will learn that paying top dollar for aging talent on long contracts is a losing proposition. Hopefully Conroy figures it out first.

Can’t believe I was on the edge of my seat feeling nervous against the Hawks during the 4th game of a supposedly lost season.

This team is really likeable and easy to cheer for.

Honzek has the 4th highest expected goals per 60 for all forwards on the team.

The puck just isn't bouncing his way.

There is no reason to send him down. Would be foolish.

Mangiapane took about 20 games to get used to it.

Faster, stronger, give him some time to adapt. I hate the message if you don’t perform now that’s it bye bye, guys got enough pressure on himself, give him some time to adjust and let him know the team is behind him positively.
