Not just opening night. This from spector yesterday morning:
“ Here in Edmonton, they’re not ready to panic — but you will see a heightened sense of urgency with back to back gamed against bottom feeders in Chicago and Calgary this weekend.”
Hey spekky! Only one bottom feeder played in Edmonton this weekend.
Ps the salt on 880 ched is delicious! Knoblauch says “not like last year…some players not responding.” Also sideways blames the schedule (!) because they can’t practice enough. Of course, they haven’t stepped on a plane for some time.
Reminder that callins starting on 880 ched, not 630 ched any more.
McDavid has been on one plane so far this year - he flew to SEA and VAN 10 days ago. That's it.

Just watching the PVR'ed game, enjoying it knowing the result. This panel in the first intermission is full clown show. Principe, Bob 'liver and heart failure incoming' stauffer and another massive oilers cheerleader Strudwick. My wife knows old friends of strudwick's- massive oilers fan. He's about as impartial as if one of us was on the broadcast advocating for the flames. What an embarrassing trio of clowns.
Apparently McCryBaby is a tightly wound fire and brimestone spitting Angry Alpha of a player that other players just can't handle playing with...

One critique I would have is that McD mainspring is wound too tight. This impacts sometimes his play on ice, how he is on a team, and how he might be in the room at times. Generally it can be difficult to be around somebody super mercurial like that. On the other hand its that kind of fire that is the ingredient for some superstars. Has to do with how they channel emotions, challenges, even failures. With the Alpha's Like McD or Mess they channel it with anger. But that can make others nervous and holding sticks tightly etc. Some players have struggled a bit with McD. You need a certain degree of affable and self confidence to be around it. Hyman perfect I guess in that regard. I don't know that Nuge always loves the fire. He's a cerebral guy and the fire and brimstone might get him off his game.
Drai sometimes is a good elixir for McD. But Drai also guilty of being far too serious at times and not in a way that gets results. Generally this club plays a lot better when feeling good emotionally. Right now they feel stress. Not as much as last year according to KK, but its there.
Apparently McCryBaby is a tightly wound fire and brimestone spitting Angry Alpha of a player that other players just can't handle playing with...
This is frickin hilarious….”Angry Alpha” …. Very clear that McDavid was always the one getting hung up by his jock on the dressing room hangers. Alpha…… he is for sure “little spoon”
One of the worst examples of a leader in the history of the game.

Oilers lose their first three games with a combined score of 15-3. Fans respond:
Greaser fans:
-The refs are conspiring against us.
-Every team circles these games against the cup favourite and this is their Stanley Cup.
-Darnell Nurse
-Bounces
Flames fans:
-Karma from employing so many players and management with checkered pasts
-Players’ cumulative embarrassment from Hunter, the Chernobyl creature, Gene Principe’s spray tan, and the video of Connor’s squeaky hissy fit.

"Alberta Hockey Nights (Sweats and Circles)"
(Verse 1)
The Oilers are tanking—three losses deep,
McDavid’s skating, but the team’s still asleep.
In Calgary, the Flames burn hot and bright,
Three wins stacked—everything feels right.
Edmonton’s streets are a strange, wild ride—
Traffic circles with stoplights side by side.
Urine in the air and vomit on the ground,
It’s all part of the city's charm, somehow renowned.
(Chorus)
Flames on fire, Oilers crash,
Edmonton’s season has turned to ash.
From Edmonton streets to Calgary’s lights,
We’re living for these Alberta hockey nights!
(Verse 2)
Edmonton women know comfort is king—
Sweatpants with good shoes? That’s the thing.
Fashion or function? They just don’t care,
They’ve got bruised-up legs, but they still go anywhere.
The Oilers can’t score, the pucks won’t fall,
And fans wonder why they showed up at all.
It’s just one of those years—better get used to it,
Another long winter, and the Oilers won’t quit... losing.
(Chorus)
Flames on fire, Oilers crash,
Edmonton’s season has turned to ash.
From Edmonton streets to Calgary’s lights,
We’re living for these Alberta hockey nights!
(Bridge)
Sweats and good shoes—Edmonton’s vibe,
Even if the Oilers can’t catch a ride.
Traffic jams, vomit stains—what’s not to love?
Just like the team, it’s all part of the shove.
(Chorus)
Flames on fire, Oilers crash,
Edmonton’s season has turned to ash.
From Edmonton streets to Calgary’s lights,
We’re living for these Alberta hockey nights!
(Outro)
No comebacks here, no silver line,
The Flames are soaring, the Oilers decline.
Alberta’s heart still beats for the game,
Even when it hurts, we cheer just the same!

This whole thing is hilarious, the Oilers will bounce back to an effect, even through I fully believe that the pixie luck dust is abandoning the Oilers.
But
1) They can't fire another coach, the Coaches union will put a hit out on the Oilers. Plus no coach will agree to coach the Oilers unless they get a super long term deal and a huge over payment. Plus good coaches will look at the aging core and terrible blueline and inconsistent goaltendiing and country club environment with McDavid calling the shots and say NERP!
2) People have complained that the Oilers look slow. Of course they do, and its not because they're disinterested. Its because they're old and guys like Hyman have a lot of hard miles on the tires. They also lost some of their better skater and fore checkers.
3) God Damn those goalies. Yeah, they haven't looked great, but its sad that a sorta Calgary Flames fan has to be the mature one in the room when it comes to the Oilers fan base. The Oilers defensive coverage is atrocious. Look at last night and the goals, RA dances around the entire Oilers team, embarrasses a clearly disinterested McDavid. The second goal was a no fault rebound by the goalie, the third was just ####ty defensive awareness.
4) The excuses, wah the NHL is out to get us, wah the refs hate us. How about HA HA please dispute those two calls, Vlader didn't have access to his stopping lane thanks to Perry, that's goalie interference, the off side was . . . offside. Spector sounds like the Oilers should get special dispensation from the league because they're Oilers, that's not how the force works.
5) Its up to McDavid and Draisaitl, the rest don't matter. But Draisaitl has looked like hot garbage, McDavid has looked like he doesn't care. I get it with Draisaitl, if I got that contract, I'd be digging into big macs for the first month and partying like its 1999. They are being two cute right now, trying to pass through entire teams when they don't need to. And in their own zone, and coming back its the same old controller disconnect.

Not at all, as I've said, I would rather start with LA over any of the other WC playoff teams. Bunch of underachievers who look good on paper but don't even deserve to be in the playoffs.

It’s the guy on HFOil who fancies himself an intellectual hockey analyst.
Good lord did that guy get up his own ass more with age?

Thing about that HFOil quote is that it's actually a compliment to McDavid disguised as a critique. It's like being asked your biggest weakness in a job interview and saying "well, I'm a perfectionist, anal about punctuality and I work too hard". And it's actually a critique about the guys he mentions who "can't handle" that Alphaness.
Truth though - there's other descriptions for guys who have a mainspring wound too tight. Like "wingnut".

in case any one is concerned Oilers are solidly in first place in the early Money Puck Power rankings. In fact there is more space between them and 2nd place Carolina than there is between 2nd place Carolina and 15th place Buffalo
