No one would have guessed Honzek would make an NHL roster a month ago. Great job by him

Interesting. Those lists can often mean nothing as far as where they end up laying in the lineup but, if they do intend to use them both as centers to start the season, Rooney might be the one to sit out the first game:
If those players are in the opening night line up (not necessarily the lines), it fits with the idea that Conroy would make opportunities for young guys if they earned a job in training camp. I know Coronato wasn’t as productive to finish the preseason but he still had a solid showing… and was still putting puck on net which I bet is one of the most important things they are asking of him - shoot the puck. Klapka has been a physical force in every game he’s been in so far. He’s produced some secondary scoring as well but most importantly he’s been a relentless forechecker and he has used his size. Honzek has gotten better and better since day 1 of training camp and is amongst the league leaders in points during the pre-season.

I officially like Honzek. He acknowledges the criticism & worries about his game last year and says it was basically true and he was wondering all the same things about himself. Also I think the Flames owe Pospisil an extra development staff salary for basically spending summer telling Honzek he was going to make the NHL and pushing him to believe it.

Agreed, imo they are a 1C and a 3D from being quite competitive. Those are certainly big holes but this team isn't going to be San Jose/Chicago bad.
Whew! Wouldn't want to be San Jose/Chicago bad and wind up with either Celebrini and Smith or Bedard and Levshunov! Dodged a real bullet there, we did.

With where the flames are at in the rebuild, I’m especially cheering for the young guys to impress and solidify their spots on the roster. Would love to see Zary, Coronato, Honzek, Klapka, Posposil and Wolf all have big years on the team. I know that’s really rare for that many young players to impress at the same time but here’s hoping.
Doesn’t a # change usually indicate the player
Is here to stay on the main roster.
Yes but mostly no. Pelletier changing to 22 from 49 last year didn't mean much.
